Vehicle Detail
My wife bought this '55 about 12 years ago from a dealer in California. It had always been a California vehicle, and had been in a climate controlled garage since 1970. This little Ford does not know what the word "rust" means. It has never had any, period. The car had been owned by the same person since the early 60's, and was "built" as a show car, to compete in ISCA. It ran a 427 FE with a blower. Back then the more chrome, the more points, so no dollars were spared having things plated. The body was removed, and all pieces that would unbolt were plated. The frame was painted, the body undercoated, and all wearable parts and pieces replaced. Now, I don't like chrome, but believe me, it makes this puppy easy to keep clean. It had been painted in copper lacquer in about 1969, then topcoated with candy red in 1970, turning it into a root beer brown color. My wife bought the car with no engine or tranny, as I had a very nice 292 Y-Block and 4-speed combo to use. The engine was a killer and ran great, but I had it torn down anyway. All new bearings, rings, oil pump, etc,,,, The cam is an unidentified Isky, and provides the best sounds I have ever heard from a Y-Block. I used the fat manifolds, since I didn't want to run headers, and the pipes curl over the frame to run outside. It has 2-1/2" exhaust with glasspacks. Fellow racers can't believe how it sounds, and don't know why I don't race it. Truth is, it's not mine, it's my wife's. And, she won't let me. I used a '57 four barrel manifold, and modified it (per the experts) to work best with the Edelbrock 600. The radiator is old and thick, but works great. There is no motor fan, and the electric is only needed in stopped traffic in hot weather. The critter has all new driveline stuff, from driveshaft to tranny, to clutch, to aluminum flywheel, to brakes. The steering is manual and a breeze to operate. It drives absolutely wonderfully. Outside it has new paint, a Dodge copper basecoat/clearcoat. It's not perfect, but that's the point, it's a driver. The glass is all perfect, and all rubbers and seals are great, having been replaced when the car was shown. I don't think it had been driven since. I don't believe that my wife has driven this car 500 miles since I finished with all the mods. Let the pictures do the talking...... The interior could stand to be redone. It was last touched in 1970. It is extremely comfortable to drive, but the material and color still live in the past. The drivers seat is worn, but not torn. The front seats are Monte Carlo swivel buckets. The color is gold cloth with walnut naugahyde. The headliner is fine. The dash is very kool. The cluster including the see through speedo has been removed, so the top is smooth all the way across. It has a multitude of gauges, with some for the blower. The wiring could stand to be thinned out. Everything works, but there is simply an abundance of wiring. Timing system, radio speakers, etc....The carpeting is complete, but again, could stand to be replaced. It has a remote trunk electrical release, plus a manual release. Out back is a near perfect set of Merc wagon taillights. The lenses are perfect, and the chrome is near perfect. I gave these to my wife for Christmas many years ago, even before she bought the car. The tires are new, as are the wheels. I have '60 Ford caps installed, as they have always been my favorite. The chrome underneath is starting to pit, but remember, it was done prior to 1969. It's still respectable. The frame has chips, but again, let the pictures show it's condition. Have questions, simply ask away, either though the listing, or call Bruce (208) 695-3956 If I don't happen to answer, leave a message !! I'm sure that I have missed a number of things, so I will add to the description as things pop up.On Jan-07-16 at 10:02:28 PST, seller added the following information: Now for the "popping up" things......I'm sure most of you realize this is a Customline, not a Fairlane, not that it makes any difference. I always thought the Fairlane trim looked out of place on a Customline. Now, a good eye will have noticed that there is no heater. The heater was removed when the blown FE went in. I have a '56 (12V) heater unit that goes with the car. When I mentioned this puppy sounds good, it was probably an understatement. It idles at 1000 RPM, with as good a rump rump and choppiness as you will hear on anything that is street driven. Now this is good and not so good. It does not like to run along slowly in a tall gear, as it goes below the idle RPM. Once you are used to it, it's more than fine, it's downright fun. When the blower motor was in, it has a C6, and had the appropriate rear gear. That makes for a tall first gear, but is great on the road. I would probably change it to a lower gear, but it's not mine. I have never romped on this critter, and in fact, have never brought in the secondaries. I can't guarantee that Nancy hasn't. It's simply one of those cars that's more fun to cruize than be an idiot in. Besides, I have a '58 with a pumped 429 that I drag race, and that fulfills my need for speed. Taillights.......Due to the question below, I will make this offer. If the buyer likes the stock units, and they are very nice, I will swap them back and discount the price by $800.00. Ya can't beat that. I normally wouldn't do it, but Nancy really likes the Mercs, and would rather keep them.. Again, feel free to ask any question about this critter. On Jan-08-16 at 10:56:43 PST, seller added the following information: If you look at the underside pics you can see the brackets where a set of ladder bars were hooked up. These are left over from the blown FE days. When I picked up the cruizer many years back, the bars had been removed, and I didn't get them. Also, the fuel tank is new, as are all the fuel lines, and the fuel pump. Speaking of fuel, this little bugger runs just fine on pump gas, 87 octane. And, It has never had even a drop of fuel in it that contains ethanol. On Jan-10-16 at 14:30:30 PST, seller added the following information: Please note........This little Ford has never had any rust, anywhere.
