Vehicle Detail

This is a 2 owner 66 Fairlane 500 GT that I bought from the original owner's son. It was in the same family for 49 years. Always garage kept, never any accidents. this is a very nice & rare example of a 60's muscle car. I was going to restore it, but I am a GM car guy and have found something else. It runs, shifts & drives great, but will need a restoration. Only problems I have found, antenna is broken, heater core needs replaced, lower hinge on driver door needs replaced, GT emblem on driver fender is missing, fan shroud is missing, original radiator needs re-cored. Every other piece of trim is attached to the car in in excellent shape, has a few dings & needs polish. Body: Excellent condition, no rust around any of the windows, front fenders are rust free, shock towers are rust free and clean, torque boxes are rust free. The only rust issue is the lower quarter panel behind the rear wheel on the driver side. ( I have included a pic). It will need replaced, the trunk drop is rust free. I believe they make a reproduction lower panel. Very straight car, few small dings here & there but nothing major. Interior: All original from the headliner to the carpet. Dash pad looks new, no cracks at all. Steering wheel also looks like new. Headliner is almost perfect. Center console is excellent. All lights, turn signals, radio, 8 track work like new. Really all the interior needs is a new carpet & the driver bucket seat needs a new panel stiched in. mech: engine starts up & drives great, toploader 4 speed shifts smooth & the car rides great. rear is original 3.25 9" posi, that works great. all lights, e brake, radio, 8 track, turn signals, headlights, heater, wipers work great. Drivetrain has never been out of the car. Car comes with all 5 original wheels & original jack, owners manual. Clear Washington title in hand. I have more pics & can answer any questions you may have. thanks. On Nov-05-15 at 19:39:24 PST, seller added the following information: I have been asked by a few bidders if the car absolutely needs a restoration or could it be driven as a survivor? It can be driven as a survivor & that is actually what I had planned when I purchased the GT. It really only needs the driver side lower quarter replaced, the original radiator needs to be re-cored, needs a lower driver side door hinge. GT emblem on driver side fender, a good tune up, heater core, driver seat upholstery needs a repair job. The interior rug is original and has some tears but for a survivor it would be great. Paint would probably rub out decent. I have a recite from 2005 that shows the entire brake system was completely rebuilt. It has a great pedal & stops good for drums. It drives tight & straight. Shifts great in all gears. On Nov-06-15 at 08:28:27 PST, seller added the following information: Hi, been getting a lot of questions about rust. Again the only rust through I can find is the lower driver side quarter. There is some surface rust, but it's nothing major that I can see. It will clean up easily. This area of Washington is high desert & very dry. They also never used any salt on the streets here. This GT was garaged it's entire 50 years. That is also why the interior looks as nice as it does. The dashpad looks like it's never seen sun! Steering wheel, console, dash, passenger seat, rear seat, headliner are beautiful! Also forgot to mention that tach & windshield washers aren't working. Everything else is in great working condition. I also have the original date coded Holley double pumper that came on the car, it does need a rebuild. Currently it has an original rare 1966 Ford autolite 4 barrel carb. I also have two of the original 4 wheel center caps. The 5 wheels it comes with are the same 5 it came with from the factory. Not an expert but I think the lug nuts are even original. Thanks for looking. On Nov-06-15 at 15:32:00 PST, seller added the following information: More questions about rust issues, so today I pulled the sill plates & pulled the carpet back a bit, carpet was pretty brittle. Some surface rust on the floor boards but I did not see anything even close to rusted through. When I looked under the driver side carpet I found the original trim sheet from 1966 with the serial number on it. I have added a pic. Also pulled the mat from the trunk, again surface rust but not bad at all. Lastly I pulled the bottom of the rear seat and that area is very clean, just like the rest of the floors. If you click on the link below, you will be taken to over 100 large photos of the GT. http://slickpic.us/932342uNQO thanks for all the questions & interest. On Nov-12-15 at 00:30:01 PST, seller added the following information: Hi, you may have noticed that the high bidder retracted his bid(s) today. Thought I would explain why, since all that ebay gives for a reason is that I changed the description. grantdentureclinic (ebay username) emailed & asked me if I thought the radiator was good enough to drive the car 250+ miles through the mountains to the west side of the state. My reply was maybe, if you took enough water with you. It was more or less a joke because I did note in the auction that the radiator needs re-cored. I thought about it more today & wanted to clarify my earlier message to him. I sent him another email today stating that it wouldn't make it, just to make sure he wasn't going to really try & drive this car that far. After he got my message he cancelled his bids, so I am glad I sent a follow up to him. I can't imagine paying this kind of money for a fifty year old car, & think you are going to jump in a cruise through the mountains!
