Vehicle Detail

Normal 0 false false false EN-US JA X-NONE This 1976 BMW 2002 is a factory sunroof car, with original Baur A/C ~50% original paint and original upholstery (except rear seats). As you can see from the pictures, it isn’t perfect, but it’s a nice honest, solid survivor car that could be used for years as is, or easily restored into a show winner. The original front seats are showing their age and should be replaced if the car will be used regularly, but I am including a nice set of Recaro front seats from a E21 320i w/Sport package. I started, but never finished installation of the new covers I had made to match the interior (see pictures), so the next owner will need to finish this job. The matching rear seat covers that I bought at the same time have been installed, as you can see in the pics. Email for a link to my photobucket with 130 pictures, including underside: (s1175.photobucket.com/user/hseiii/library/) paste the text in the parenthesis into your browser, or email me and I will send a link For a mostly original 2002, this car is in very good condition. There is some minor and very isolated surface rust that you can see in the pics (underside of trunk lid beneath trim, various minor nicks and scratches), but nothing serious or structural. There are 3 small (~1/8” or so) areas on the fenders that you can see in the pics (circled in red in phonebook pics) where I touched up rust a few months ago that seems to be coming from beneath, so it could be the beginning of more than surface rust. When I bought the car, it was a very rust free car, and I did all of the things you need to do to keep a 2002 that way (this wasn’t my first 2002)– rerouted the sunroof drains to the wheelwells, removed the “tar paper insulation” from the floor beneath the carpets and coated the floors with “quiet car” and rust-oleum. I also removed the heater box and gas tank and replaced the porous open-cell foam seals with closed cell. I also vacuumed/blew out body cavities and sprayed in rust-proofing, and have kept the exterior protected with a good coat of wax. The A/C blows cold (coldish - good for a 2002) air, the heater, sunroof and all windows work well, as does everything else except the rear defroster. Doors and other apertures open and close well - no significant wear or sagging. The steering wheel that is currently on the car is a vintage leather Nardi, and the original wheel will be included as well. The wheels are E30 bottle caps with excellent tires (Faulken 185/65 14, ~10K miles). I still have the original wheels if a local buyer wants them. They’ve been stored behind my shed for years and will need to be refurbished. The engine is not original, but the original engine (ran when removed and stored in garage) will be included for local buyers or of the buyer can arrange packing and shipping. The engine that is in the car was professionally built with a number of upgrades above stock. If you were active on the old Roadfly 2002 board, the 2002 FAQ board, you might recognize it – it’s the engine from Paul Wegwiser’s “Emily”, built by Matt McGann (sp?) with 9.5:1 Euro Tii pistons. It also has a Tii exhaust manifold and Tii distributor (with Crane electronic ignition). The engine has ~70-80K miles on it, but has run 15W50 Mobile 1 since break-in and was regularly maintained, so it is in great shape. It also has a properly jetted manual choke Weber 32/36 and older, but still firm Bilstein Sport shocks. It has been very well maintained (I’m a bit fanatic) and has been extremely reliable. It was driven 5-7 days/week for ~8 years, and then 1-2 days/week for the past few years, and never let me down. It starts instantly, even in the cold (at least SE VA cold).Questions? Email and I'll respond or we can arrange a telephone conversation.
