Vehicle Detail

This is a 1949 Chevy 3100 Shortbed Pickup. Bronze exterior with bronze & black interior. Truck is being relisted. Winning bidder was not experienced with these original pickups. Thought he could drive it long distances at freeway speeds, the way it is, with it's original equipment. These old original trucks just weren't made to do that. But he didn't know, and now he does, so it was a good learning experience. With some upgrading of the drive train, suspension, brakes, etc., those speeds shouldn't be an issue. Communications with winning bidder was done over the phone, so he never saw the truck in person. It's a nice truck. Has original 216 inline 6 cylinder engine with 4 speed manual transmission. 6 volt electrical system. Engine and transmission work good. Good clutch. Transmission shifts as it should. Engine runs very nice. Tires and wheels are pretty good. Rear tires are weather checked. Probably wouldn't trust them too far. When I got the truck, it had an ugly yellow paint job. So I sanded it, got rid of all the yellow, sprayed a coat of primer and paint on the body, interior, wheels, and some engine parts. Not a professional job, but looks a whole lot better than it did. I also patched a couple small holes in the floor before painting, then carpeting. Added a seat cover. I think all the gauges work, except maybe the fuel gauge. Flushed brake system. Front brakes work very good. Rear brakes need wheel cylinders. Lights work, including blinkers and dome light. Wiring replaced where needed. Wired toggle switches for blinkers and horn, which are mounted neatly on underside of dash(see pictures). All glass is good. Replaced water pump and thermostat. Flushed cooling system. I installed new plugs. Flushed fuel system. Replaced fuel line where needed. Installed new fuel pump. Cleaned carb. Replaced air filter. Tuned it and changed oil. Runs very nice. There are a few rust through areas including bottom of doors, cab corners, couple places on fenders, and probably a couple more I don't recall right now (see pictures and use the zoom feature). These are rust areas that are very common in this part of the country. There is some bondo in a couple places on fenders. Not a lot. There is a few dents here and there. Suspension leaf springs are good. Shocks will probably need replacing, but rides good as is. Wood in bed looks to be original and is in great shape. Must have spent most of its life stored inside. Frame looks good with normal surface rust and dirt. I don't see any rust through areas or any other issues on frame. Truck is currently registered with clear title and I do drive it on occasion, locally. Feel free to contact me if you need more pictures or have questions. And if you are in this area, and want to see the truck, we can set that up (I encourage it and really believe you won't be disappointed). This is just a hobby for me. I don't restore these old trucks totally, just enough to make them drivable, legal, and look decent. Complete restoration or modifications is left to the next owner. Or it can be driven and enjoyed the way it is, with maybe a few minor updates and tweaks the next owner will choose to make. Buyer will need to arrange pick up and/or shipping. I am flexible with time and days, and will assist in loading. Can be driven on trailer. Delivery is a possible option that will need to be discussed, if needed, prior to bidding. Contact me anytime. If you aren't a big fan of internet communication, give me a call at 715-554-1166. I will want a $500 deposit made to my Paypal account, by the winning bidder, within 48 hours after auction ends. Balance to be paid when truck is picked up. Cash is preferred. Thanks and good luck. And again, don't hesitate to ask questions before bidding. It's a good looking, good running, nice driving truck.
