Vehicle Detail

1967 FORD MUSTANG FASTBACK NO RESERVE Thanks for checking out my 1967 Ford Mustang Fastback. I pulled this little gem out of a barn about 6 months ago in Eastern, Oregon. The folks had it since 1994, and eventually parked it in 2001, hoping to restore it one day. As many of you already know these cars are probably the most sought after cars in the Ford line up, 1967 fastbacks are the ones that everyone is looking for. I’ve owned them all from 1965-1973, and yes even a 1978 King Cobra, and whenever you talk to someone about Mustangs, the 1967 Fastbacks always come up in conversation. This car is a good project, an open canvas, so whether you want to build a very classic restored car, Shelby GT350 or GT500, or Eleanor Clone, or us your imagination to build a serious pro- touring car, the choice is up to you, it is all there, it does run and drive, and will make someone a very good daily driver/project car. We decided to get it running again instead of doing the barn find thing, with dust all over it etc. We did a few things to it to make it run again, which I will explain later in description. I have it to the point now, were you can start it right up, drive it around the block, or old country roads, it does drive pretty well right now, engine runs very good. It needs new tires on it, they are dry rotted, so that is the first thing it will need before you can really do any freeway driving. I have put about 20 miles on it, and it does very well, still needs a little sorting here and there, but in a few weeks, you could have this fastback as a daily driver if you so choose. All the VIN numbers match, Buck tag under hood, Inner Apron VIN, door tag Vin, all match the title, easy transfer overseas or in the US. Anyways please read on, would be glad to talk to you more about the car, give me call, Thanks, Jason 503-910-2085 Mechanically it seems to be in pretty good shape. When I got the car, it was parked, it had some power steering leaks this is one of the reasons he guy parked it besides the growing famil, he hoped to get back to it one day, under the car, you can see the drips off the power steering, and it coated the bottom of the car with residue through the years. I got the car basically the way it looks now. Instead of selling it as a barn find covered in dust, and not running etc. I decided to get it running again, so I could see how mechanically sound it was. I did a basic tune up on it, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, points. Put on a new coil, water pump, front timing chain cover seal, went ahead and put new timing gears and chain in it, since I was there. Has a new water pump, and thermostat, heater core, flushed the coolant system, and also had Carburetor rebuilt, fuel filter, oil changed and after all that then decided to fire her up. This little mustang runs very good, starts right up, does not blow smoke or burn oil, very clean running little engine so far. Obviously it is an older engine, but seems to be in pretty good shape, never have had it out and really driven it hard, just have had it out and about a total of 20 miles or so, so not warranting anything on the engine or drivetrain it has been a long time since it has been driven daily by any means. The engine is a 289, I believe it is the original to the car, they did not VIN stamp these engines, it has been upgraded with a 4V Carb and Intake. Engine runs smooth, no lifter ticking, throttles nicely. It does have headers on it, with dual exhaust, that dumps out in from of rear axle. There are a few exhaust leaks, but whoever buys it will probably put new exhaust on it anyways. I have driven the car some, but the tires are dry rotted, and need to be changed. I have driven it a little bit around town, and out in the country, but it needs new tires to see what else it needs for reliability. I would call it a basic daily driver right now, if it had new tires on it, and maybe a couple weekends of fixing up other things on it in general. The transmission seems to be in good shape, it shifts smooth in all gears, so I’m assuming it is operational at this point, more miles obviously will tell. The brakes seem to work decent in it as well, they stop the car well. I have never took the drums off and looked at them, so not sure how much pad and stuff they have. They pumped up good with new fluid, so I have not really looked at them to close, I was more concerned on how the engine runs . All the basic components, engine, transmission, rear end, power steering, all have fluid seeping, nothing that really hits the ground, but they all have major residue on them. The rear end, feels good no slop in it or howl It does steer decent for an old mustang, front end has never been rebuilt so will probably need the basic front end bushings and such. I have noticed a little winning out of the power steering pump, when it first starts up, not major, but a tiny bit. The power steering works on it decent though, but when you look underneath all the power steering hoses are damp, and have drips on them, which is one reason the guy original parked it in 2001. I did notice the return light was pretty cracked on it, with seeping coming of it, so replaced that line the other day, it was up near the pump, that may or may not been his problem originally, the best bet would be to go through the power steering, lines, ram and such. The front end needs new bushings and such, has never been rebuilt, so it wonders a bit, and not as tight upfront as when it was new, just needs the typical stuff whenever you restore a car like this. If you look at the wheels, it has new 1967 correct Mustang Caps on it, but the wheels are 1967 Cougar wheels, which are exactly the same as Mustang, but do not have the little pie shape cutouts on the spokes. The inner aprons on this Mustang look pretty good, no signs of accidents, the radiator support very solid. The shock towers look good as far as I can tell. There is a little rust on top of the inner passenger fender apron, looks worse then it is, these are just 2 panels that are sandwiched together, and very typical, and very easy to fix, if you already know Mustangs, you already know this. The engine compartment over all it very good for its age an condition. Interior is in decent shape for original, if you plan on using it as a driver, then it looks good, if you want to make it a show car, then it needs the basic upgrades that you would do with a restoration. Take a look at the photos, of the interior you will get a very good idea of what it is. Dash pad looks good, headliner look nice to, with a few small holes, but not hanging down or anything. The carpet is older but looks good. The seats have wear on them, but clean enough for a driver. The rear seat bottom has some tears and splits. The headliner, has about 7 small holes in it, and will need replaced when you restore it. The speedo, and odometer do work, oil pressure gauge work, the gas gauge seems to work, but I have never really filled it all the way up, and not sure if it is accurate. The Clock is pretty rare in these, but currently is not working. All the interior lights work, radio is aftermarket, and not working. The horn does work. The heater blower works, and I did change the heater core in it as well. Wiper motor does work, and all exterior lights are working. Interior lights are working, even the ones in the rear seat panels. It is also equipped with Fog Lamps that do work as well. The glass is in good shape, no major chips or cracks in them. Windows roll up and down good, but probably could use some greasing down the road. The drivers door when you shut It, you have to give it a little harder shut then normal. The passenger door, opens and closed good, but you have to hold the lock knob up, to open it, sometimes you have to wiggle the knob up a little bit, but it does open. Obviously this is an old car, so it will need door gaskets, window gaskets etc. I did check the door locks, and they do work with the keys. It has been repainted a few times. The car is pretty solid, but it does have some needs. The paint is around 30 years old and does hold a decent shine. There are many chips, and scratches on the car, and areas were paint is missing, were it has been touched up, you can see on cowl, and rear passenger quarter panel extension there are big flakes of paint that has came off, and retouched up. There is some rust bubbles that have obviously formed and need to have repairs. Both door corners show some bubbles. Behind each wheel, in the quarters, they need to be repaired minor blisters. You have to remember this is car that has survived through the years, and never completely restored, so it had been painted numerous times so it could be driven and enjoyed. There is some filler on the car, obviously I can’t tell how much, because the car is not apart. Inside the quarters, fenders all look good, but you can see some bondo behind the rear wheels, on lower quarters, and there is crack, at the bottom of the drivers quarter behind wheel. Overall look at the pictures of the exterior, look at the door jams, trunk jams, you can get a good idea of its needs and repairs. There are some bubbles along the trunk lid were it says Mustang across the back. Inside the door jams, they look to be solid, there are many layers of paint, surface rust, you can see in seams, I think the car just needs a really good cleaning in general, take it down to bare metal one day, and then you can fix what it needs, like all of them. These are don't grow on trees anymore, very hard to find Fastbacks in general, as yo already know Dynacorn builds fastback bodies, and they sell for 15K, not sure why people buy a body, that has no vin on them, and no components, I would rather buy a REAL FASTBACK, like this 1967, I don't want a clone, or replica, I want the real deal, and this is it. The front floor boards look decent in the car, but there is one area on drivers side, up toward the corner, by torque box, about a 4" square area that needs replaced, the rear floors, have been replaced at some point. There was a repair done inside the rear wheel well on the drivers side. There are various areas under the car that need attention, but overall, the rear frame rails, look very solid, no signs of accidents, very straight. I took off some of the undercoating, and grim, on the rears frame rails, and they are very solid. Front torque boxes look good, the front frame rails, have the typical, dings in them that you see, were people put there jack on them and dented them, if you have been into Mustangs for any length of time, pretty normal. The front frame rails, were the bumper brackets are attached, there are some issues, mostly on the passenger side, there is a rust hole behind the bracket, and the battery box is above that area, it needs to be replaced as well. The car structurally is very sound, it is a unibody car, the frame rails, and inner rockers seem to be overall in good shape. Please take a look at the photos, the paint is old, there are chips and small scratches on it. Overall, the car is sound, and a very good driver, with a little elbow grease, and small upgrades. For a while, you’ll probably just leave it the way it is, and just drive it and enjoy it. I would take it to any car show or cruise in any day of the week, you may not win any awards, but then again, it is a great little project, 1967 Mustang Fastback.
