Vehicle Detail
You are bidding on a beautifully restored 1952 Ford Marmon Harrington F2 All wheel drive 3/4 ton truck. This truck went through a full body off nut and bolt restoration in the early 1990s by a well known 1952 Ford private collector, parts and funding were not an issue when this truck was done and the results are obvious. I was a teen at the time this truck was coming together and always admired its quality an detail. Then many years later I was able to buy it out of his private collection. The problem is, its to nice and I constantly worry about myself, or someone else scratching or denting it while walking or carrying something through my shop since I do not have a designated show area, plus I'd like to go in a different direction with the funds. It's worth mentioning the previous owner is very patriotic and wouldn't think of using foreign or any non OEM parts during its restoration so all it's parts are USA made or NOS Ford, taken from his large inventory of NOS 52 Ford parts he was a large scale collector. So you can be assured this isn't a restoration with a hodgepodge of foreign stuff today's market seems to bring. The engine is the correct era 239 V8 Flathead Ford and was rebuilt prior to the restoration and starts and runs very nice. The only point I can deduct from the entire truck is that the engine block has a small repair near the r/s water-pump that probably dates back to the 1950s and was obviously a good enough job that the rebuilder saw no reason to replace it in after pressure testing in the early 90s when it was rebuilt prior to being installed in this truck. This is not an issue it does not affect any performance or cause the engine to do anything unusual like leak or run hot. A very minor detail but I prefer to inform a prospective buyer of all details I am aware of. It's also worth mentioning I had the water pumps and thermostats replaced this spring 2015 since these are common things that plague flat heads that sit a lot. The bed has been rebuilt using kiln treated, sanded and sealed hardwood, the trim is stainless steel and is show caliber. The paint is one of the trucks many highlights, it is the factory color this truck was date coded with, and is PPG Delstar Acrylic enamel, the finish is a 10 out of 10 I'm certain this paint job in today's market would cost you over 20k to duplicate, which is one of the reasons I'm nervous to be around it. The interior is also extremely nice and the seat has be reupholstered the spring set and even the burlap are were NOS 52 Ford, the headliner replaced, all gages work even the dome light goes on and off with the doors being opened and shut, and both spot lights shine bright. The odometer reads the mileage since the trucks rebuild, Here is some historical info pertaining to Marmon Herrington trucks published this truck was featured in. " Here's one you may not have ever seen in this much detail. The truck on these pages is a rare four-wheel drive conversion. Marmon-Herrington, the company that performed the conversions, represented a collaboration between Walter C. Marmon and Colonel Arthur Herrington, a retired Army officer. Marmon, of course, had founded the Marmon Motor Car Company and built the bright yellow Wasp racer that Ray Harroun drove to victory in the first Indianapolis 500 in 1911. Herrington brought into the equation a little G-2, or inside dope, about what the Army really needed regarding their transportation. He knew the Army had a growing requirement for reconnaissance vehicles, and intended to provide them with one. Together, he and his partner set out to convert standard Ford pickups to four-wheel drive in their Indianapolis, Indiana factory. Marmon-Herrington wasn't new to the truck business. In fact, they had been building heavy duty two-and three-axle trucks with all-wheel drive for airport refueling and wrecker service since 1931, when they first opened their doors. When Walter and the Colonel approached the Army about becoming the vendor of choice for four-wheel drive vehicles, they focused on the Ford half-ton because the Army was already familiar with the durability and service requirements of the trucks. The first conversion they performed was a great cross-country vehicle, but lacked maneuverability. Nevertheless, the Army placed an order for 64 more units. 1952 F-2 All-Wheel-Drive ¾ ton Flathead V8 Ford V-8 converted to All-Wheel-Drive by Marmon Harrington Company, Inc., Indianapolis, Indiana, USA and sold by Ford Company. Marmon Harrington began converting Ford vehicles to All-Wheel-Drive in 1935. The US Postal Service bought 4x4's for rugged rural delivery, other M-H's went to construction and road building firms, still others were bought by ranchers, oil companies, surveyors, etc. By far the largest number of Marmon Harrington Fords went to the military. Arthur Harrington replaced the standard Ford front cross spring with two longitudinal semi-elliptic. Harrington also adapted hydraulic brakes to pre 1939 Fords. Innards of the driving front axle were Ford, with a special M-H housing and constant-velocity-jointed axles. He believed early in letting the front axle free wheel when not in use. After the war Harrington introduced the "compensator" which allowed the 4x4 to stay in All-Wheel-Drive at all times but engaged the front axle and only when the rear tires began to slip, also compensated for the differences in speed between front and rear wheels on uneven surfaces or in turning corners". All in all I think you would be hard pressed to find a nicer restored 1952 Ford truck the previous owner that restored it made 52 Fords his life work and no corners were cut. To my knowledge everything on this truck works as it should I have put a limited amount of miles on it with no problems, leaks, etc. It has been very well received in the parades and shows I've had it in. The truck pretty much speaks for itself. This would make a wonderful marketing tool for a large company to enjoy. I hold a clear title in hand. Here are some YouTube videos to show the truck in more detail.
