Vehicle Detail

1962 Triumph Herald NO RESERVE Thanks for checking out "Harvey" my 1962 Triumph Herald, this is a neat little car, just a hoot to drive, very nimble, great handling thanks to its peppy 1200, 4spd and IRS rear suspension. These are just a blast to take out on the backroads through the countryside. They built these cars from 1959-1971, many folks have never seen one, nor heard of one, it is fun to have something different, most people when they come to my shop, usually end up around it, because it is so unique. I love Vehicles that make people take notice and ask, what is that, its super cute. The styling is very different, from the front to the rear, I love the front headlights and rear taillights. Triumph built 3 different models, the Saloon, which is a 2dr sedan, the convertible, and fastback coupe w/ removable hardtop, the best of both worlds. I see the other cars occasionally, but very rare to see the coupe version, these make for very light cars, and great for racing, and still use a full frame for strength. Later on they built the Triumph Vitesse which is a Herald with a 6 cylinder, what a little monster. I bought this car actually about a year ago, and my plans were to turn it into a little street/track car, I wanted to keep it stock looking but really build a car that Rootes or Shelby might have built if they would have gotten ahold of back in the day, perhaps a little v8. Well I have decided to sell it, obviously I buy and sell cars, but I’m a car nut on top of that and love to work and restore rigs. The only reason I am selling it is because another little car showed up 1955 Messerschmitt KR200, and I been wanting one of these for a long time, and I don’t have the funds currently to do both cars at the same time, so the little Herald is up for sale, with No Reserve to help my fund my other project. I found this little Herald out in Mt. Angel, Oregon, just about 15 minutes from my house. My wife was running a Marathon out there during Octoberfest, so I went, and she took off running at 6:45am, she always wonders want I am going to do for 4 hours or so, I usually figure something out. Well I decided to walk the streets of the little German inspired town, and I saw this guy sitting on his porch drinking coffee. I look back in his garage, and I see this little Herald sitting there, I have to admit, I didn’t know what it was at first glance. He said he had owned it near 30 years. Let just say at 7:30am I was the new owner. After my wife ran the race, she said I hope you weren’t bored, I said I kept myself entertained like normal. Anyways, this is a cool little car, I will be a little sad to see it go, who ever gets it will have a lot of fun with it. If you would like to talk about it more, give me call, it would be my pleasure to explain more about it, very hard to describe any car in words, but photos do help a lot, and I took a bunch for you, over 100, if you are interested in a Buy it Now Option, let me know, Thanks, Jason 503-910-2085. Mechanically it is in pretty good shape. Engine runs very good, sounds like a sewing machine, it is all stock, these cars ran Dual Solex Carbs which it still has on it, with manual choke. It takes a little bit to get it started if you are new to it, you got to get the choke just right, and spin it over a few times when it is cold or been sitting. If you know Solex carbs, they don’t have accelerator pumps, so you can’t pump them with the pedal, it just takes a little while for the fuel to get up there to fire off especially when it sits. But once you get it started, it fires easy every time. The engine idles, nice, it does not blow smoke or burn oil, it is actually a pretty clean running little engine. It has plenty of power for its size, it likes to warm up a bit before you drive it, but after that you are good to go. The transmission shifts nice, original 4spd manual, clutch feels good, does not pop out of gear. I have done a lot of work on the brakes, turned all the drums, new shoes, front wheel bearings, it stops good now. I also put brand new tires on it a couple months ago, so they have very little wear. As you can see from the engine compartment, it is very original, down to the valve cover and factory aircleaner. The rear end, feels good no slop in it, when I am backing up I can hear a little noise sometimes, like a shock or something is loose, I have not been able to figure it out yet, it doesn’t affect its drivability at all. I have had it out on the road some in the last month, but prior to that, it has not been on the road since 2004, but I have done a lot of general work to get it were it is today. This will make a nice little project for someone, fairly straight forward, if you have a little mechanical skills this will be a great for you to drive and restore as you go. Interior is in decent shape. The last owner had it completely redone in the 80’s, it shows a little wear but for the most part it is usable. Very nice looking inside and very comfortable to ride in, I love the vintage seatbelts, with the aluminum clasp, you put it on like a regular belt. Non Smoker, very pleasant. The door panels are nice, seats are in nice condition, I like the color combination. The rear panels, are a little loose. The Hardtop is in good shape, but could use new seals. I have had this car outside a lot, and it sat outside during the winter, and does stay dry inside, I have not had any issues. You can see the wood dash needs to restored, it has some cracks in it, were someone added a glove box door, which the door is hard to get open. I don’t think these cars had a door on them originally. The radio is not working, the wiper motor works, the heater fan works off a switch on dash. The turn signals are not currently working, but it does have brake lights, headlights, and running lights currently. The horn does not work either. The odometer and speedometer both work, gas gauge is not working. Take a look at the interior, the photos really give you a good idea of what it looks like. The drivers door is hard to shut, you have to give it basically a good slam, don’t have to be nice to it, it needs to be fixed eventually. I did check the drains at the bottom of the doors and they are clear, and I do not have a key for the door locks, you will have to get one made at some point, only the ignition key. He horn works off a switch on dash as well. There are a few other switches on dash but I am not sure where they go. The door glass, rolls up and down nicely as well, no cracks in the windshield. Overall a driver quality interior that you wouldn't mind getting in and driving. The trunk area is all carpeted, the trunk pan is in excellent shape, no rust. The trunk latch, works, but the slot that it goes into to lock it down is not grabbing, it needs a new lockdown little plate, probably easy to fabricate one. One of the trunk hinges is broken, it still works, but it needs repaired. Overall the interior and trunk area are in decent shape for a driver. It has been repainted a few times, originally a light greenish blue color. If you know Triumph or British cars, you already know they have rust issues. The car because it has spent the last 30 years indoors, is really in great shape. The is Herald very little rust, a little bit on the front passenger fender you can see in the picture. The rest of the body is rust free, and in great shape. The frame, is really nice, no rust issues, very solid, very nice floors. The only areas were there is some rust pin holes, in underneath the rear seat on the passenger side, very easy to get to, very easy to fix, the rest of the undercarriage is in amazing condition. The paint is around 35 years old, and they didn't do a great job when they painted it, mask lines, the paint is not very good, it is one color. It is not a bondo machine though, it is a little wavy down the sides, but I have not seen any signs of any bondo abuse on it, very solid. It has lots of big chips, scratches that have been touched up, look at the photos, you can see it has old paint, but with that said, very solid for a Triumph Herald, or any Triumph in general. All the chrome and bright work on the car, needs restored, some of the rubber bumper corners that slide on are missing, but they in general all need new rubber trim. I have been selling classic cars here on eBay since 2003, 12 years now, with around 500 classic cars sold over the internet. What I love about these old cars, is that I get to own some of my favorite cars one at a time, I have turned this passion into a business, but for me it is an awesome time to enjoy the cars themselves. Thanks, Jason 503-910-2085 I just love the nose on this car. The little RAC badge is out of my collection, and not going with car. The top removes easily, with 6 bolts if you choose to drive it as a convertible. This car has been in Oregon its whole life, which explains its condition, when concerning rust, we do not salt the roads, which saved this Triumph. Those are the originalOregon Pacific Wonderland plats on it, I have front one as well. You can drive it around with the top on or off, these have a full frame underneath of them, the top bolts on, you could probably use some quick release hardware. The top is steel, not fiberglass.
