The Good: This Rav has never been in an accident (tail light cracked in a parking lot by someone one time and replaced it but no accidents) and everything works- power windows, locks, A/C, radio, cassette player, cruise control, all lights, gauges, fan, washer, wiper, etc. works great. Starts right up and runs fine every time, doesn't hesitate, skip, or stutter, has newer clutch, alternator and front coil springs. Tires are good. The Bad: Needs work! I am not a mechanic but here is what I am aware of: Should be time for a timing belt this year, probably needs brakes soon, the oil pump was rebuilt two years ago because it was losing so much oil but it is doing it again (loses 1/2 qt of oil every tank of gas or so) don't know if that is pump again or what, too much play in steering and some popping sounds inside steering column and leaks power steering fluid, it rattles underneath front and rear and probably needs new bushings or whatever, engine light on and last time it was checked it was the oxygen sensor- don't know if there is more now, and seatbelt light blinks even when buckled. During rain it leaks into passenger floor and I haven't been able to locate the leak. And last but not least it has been a 4-speed not a 5-speed for about 4 years. The whatever that holds it in 5th gear no longer holds so it pops out to neutral. My mechanic said that wouldn't affect the rest of it and I have driven it with 4 on the floor for years now. Just gets less gas mileage. The Ugly: We live in snow country and after all these years it is rusting underneath and that is why I am not going to fix it. May be good for parts car or self mechanic with time and ability. We bought this new and it has been the best car ever - but ready to retire it now. I opted to spend my money on another vehicle and let this one go. If you want to purchase this I will say yes, it starts and drives but I no longer feel it to be road worthy and since I am not a mechanic I wouldn't risk it and I and recommend you tow it home. There is absolutely no warranty on anything on it and I even though I have listed everything that I know of I am not a mechanic and there may be more wrong with it that I am not aware of. I want you to be safe going home if you get it- please consider having it towed. Local pickup only please.
