Vehicle Detail
Here’s your chance to own a solid running Bugeye with many period add-ons without the need to drop $20k+ for a show car that you would be scared to drive anyway. It presents quite well and turns heads, but it still could use a little bit of loving and fine detailing (see the photos at the bottom of the listing). I was planning on upgrading to a 1275 motor, Datsun 210 tranny, RX-7 rear end and front tilt bonnet, but life has pointed me in another direction. It’s ready for the next owner to improve and enjoy. A video and extensive photos are at the end of the listing. The car's details… Year: CA registered as 1959, but the VIN is clearly a 1960 Title: CA, clean Mileage: 66,043 miles on speedometer currently (actual miles unknown) 63,803 miles as sold to me in 2003 Used solely for cruzing around the Bay Area on day trips Color: Red, appears to have been white in the past Engine: 948 cc, 9C-U-H 7964, high compression Chassis #: VIN AN5L/39531 (engine compartment) (1960 #) AN 599088 (driver side door jamb) 3A 3914 (passenger side door jamb) Paint: Some blemishes here and there, but the car presents well. See the photos. All the blemishes are fixable without need to repaint from what I have been told. Never got around to it since they aren’t bad and I was more interested in performance. Color matched paint identified (Deltron 2000, DBC700379 K Sport Red). I have a small can for touch ups that matches the paint perfectly. Car was detailed and waxed in April 2015. Rust: CA car, none of the typical body rust that you see in East Coast cars. Only surface rust on some suspension components if you look hard Tuning: SUs running a bit rich and could use a professional adjustment. Oil: Like most British cars (and Harleys), this car drips a slightly amount of oil after heating up and driving at the front and back. Nothing at all to be concerned about, simply a reflection of the primate British sealing technology at the time. I have two pans at the front and back that you can have and inspect. Oil change was done in April 2015. Electrical: 12V, negative ground Tranny: Tranny shifts well for an old British tranny. First gear is non-syncro. Third gear has a tight gate. I have never endeavored to check if this is a smoothcase tranny. I would assume it is since that's the stock tranny for a 948. Starting: Car starts right up with choke when cold. Once warm, no choke necessary to restart. Add-ons: All the add-ons from me are low mileage and low use (~2250 miles). Thus they should all perform like new. Also, I bought most my parts from Winner’s Circle (WC as indicated below), which I highly recommend. Ask for Dave or Rob. Their knowledge makes it easy for someone who is unfamiliar with Bugeyes. Now, this car never even gets close to overheating, even while not moving.Horn switch in steering wheel not working, relocated to dash mounted button (red square in photos). No more issues with people not hearing this little Bugeye. The horns are loud! All gauges/gauge lights working including trip mileage gauge.Wipers workLights work (low & high beam)The car has all the features needed to mount side curtains and soft top. I previously owned them but sold them due to not using them ever in California.Stainless steel muffler (came with car when I purchased)… It makes the car sound really cool. Makes people look up and take notice. It’s a lot of fun to drive and is really fast downhill. You need a 1275 to make it fast uphill. Not sure if the wiper fluid assembly works – never tried getting it to work.Missing the heater knob (open hole in dash); thus no idea if the heater works, but the hardware seems to be there. Two extra holes have been carefully drilled in the dash for the horn button and the alarm light. One alarm fob will be provided with the car along with 2-3 keys.I have some custom made wood blocks that are used to raise the car for service using a jack. They will be provided to the new owner if desired.A box of extras comes with the car (see photo).Only rear license plate can be provided if necessary based on your state’s DMV needs. I have a personal plate that likely doesn’t match your needs. Please let me know if further information is desired. Serious buyers please, e-mail via eBay for my cell phone number to discuss details. The fine print… If you have never driven a stick shift, please bring someone else who knows how to drive a stick to evaluate the car. The RESERVE on this car has been set at a reasonable level. I can't give it away. This car is being sold “As Is” with no warranties, just like when I bought it from a classic car dealer in Pleasanton, CA in 2003. I have done my best to describe the car in detail. But please understand that this is a vintage car and condition evaluations are subjective and may contain discrepancies depending on the viewer/evaluator. I encourage in an person inspection or a third party inspection prior to bidding. All sales are final. It is up to the buyer to do due diligence when making a purchase online. Do not make any assumptions about anything. Ask any questions that may not have been addressed. I am not responsible for any errors or erroneous misinformation. Sorry no Paypal except for deposit due to scamming potential at this dollar value. Cash, wire transfer or direct bank-to-bank transfer are acceptable. The car will not be released to the new owner until funds have cleared my bank or my hand. The buyer is responsible for all taxes and fees incurred from the transaction. If you have feedback of less than 10, please email me before bidding so we can discuss your specifics. I am a private seller who is getting rid of items that I own.
