1975 Triumph TR6 36K documented milesTurnkey ready thrill ride Sharp and rare color combo Following are links to all pics and a slideshow --http://s1382.photobucket.com/user/rootedowne/library/1975%20Triumph%20TR6 http://s1382.photobucket.com/user/rootedowne/slideshow/1975%20Triumph%20TR6 Thrilling Roadster --The TR6 must be close to owning the title of the slimmest production car with a 6 cylinder engine. It’s still surprising to walk around one and imagine what lurks under the hood.Triumph was up against a lot in the 70’s. Japan rattled the fences. Porsche was certainly not settling for less. Leyland came to the table with a wonderful long legged engine, semi-trailing arm independent rear suspension, rack and pinion steering, front disc brakes, 15-inch wheels and pretty beefy tires, and a full complement of instrumentation. It was as if to say, this is what you need for a nice drive in the countryside, now come along. This car pulls like a beast. I don’t have enough points of reference to know this for certain, but something tells me you would not be left in the back of the pack if this car saw a day on the vintage race circuit. It pulls very willingly and has a pretty surprising baritone coming out of the pipes. The inline 6 really is a nice fit for the kind of touring these cars offer. Shifts from 2nd to 3rd and 4th are a joy. It has plenty of power so, cruising along at highway speeds is effortless. Exterior Details – This car came in the factory color code 136, Delft Blue. The city of Delft in Holland is famous for their blue and white porcelain – a nice tip of the hat tribute. It suits the car well and has a timeless quality. The previous owner purchased it in 1991. In the interim, a gentle restoration was done. Underside of hood, door and trunk jambs are all in excellent shape. It was repainted and done to a high standard. The car has only put on 5k miles since. There are signs of use – a small scratch on the driver front fender, a bit of rubbing in the trunk latch area. It shows very well at local shows and events, but you can be at ease actually driving it there. Badges & Emblems – '75-'76 models came with the iconic union jack flag emblems. The really ad a nice bit of visual detail to the rear end of the car. Not all even came with British Leyland emblems. Some were installed at the dealer. This one has one on each side. They are in like new condition and were applied after the repaint. The ID plate indicates manufacturing date and the unique color codes of this iteration. Again, like new. Lenses & Brightwork --The bumpers are in like new condition. The rear view mirror, gas cap and other trim work shine brightly and are consistent with a low mileage car preserved and brought to this level of presentation. I parked the car in a covered garage (to get out of some pretty hot sun) for some of the photos. The reflection in the image of the gas cap is the concrete ceiling. Gas cap and side mirror are super nice. Interior Details –The interior trim is color code 27, Shadow Blue. The combination almost comes off as a shirt under jacket combination. Period correct, handsome and ageless. There are quite a few red on black, green on tan Triumphs out there. Nice, but this one is easy to spot. The carpets are new. The windlace, windows and door seals are in the same condition. BTW, color is uniform throughout. Sunlight conditions made that hard to capture in some photos, but in person, it's spot on. The only item of note on the interior is the driver’s seat. The side nearest the door could use a bit of attention. It is still very comfortable, but offers an opportunity to take the car up a notch. Dash & Gages -- The dash is in excellent shape. Solid wood shows no signs of water or sun damage and has the right level of sheen (not super glossy). All gauges work. Even the glove box light works (glow in 5th pic). Odometer reads 36888. The title is from 1991 and indicates an actual mileage of 31,000. Ready for the next 40 years! Soft Top, Boot Windlace, Seals -- The top was replaced during restoration. It is as new. The top frame and ribbon supports are in excellent original condition. The boot is in the shadow blue color of all interior upholstery and appears to be another excellent original piece. Mechanicals – With so few miles, this car's mechanicals have an excellent state of preservation. About 2 years ago, the tank was removed and thoroughly cleaned. The carburetors were removed and sent to a specialist for overhauling. It was in the care of a mature mechanic with an eye for detail. If something needed attention, it was addressed by the best person for the job (he sent out the carbs after all). Thanks to this work, it is turnkey ready to enjoy. The tires have almost no wear. The are not redlines, but the slightly wide stance (205) takes advantage of the excellent factory rims. Sections of the exhaust including the Monza tips are upgrades. Not factory, but arguably better. All together, it offers it offers the nostalgic connection to the road and great road manners you'd expect with a bit naughty but not unpleasant exhaust note. You're going to enjoy shifting into 3rd on a slight incline. Yah baby, yah! It also comes with a roll bar. It’s never been installed and the car never driven in that manner, but reminded me of how capable these cars are. It really does seem like a candidate for some track days or at least spirited driving. A small box of parts like long ram air intake pipes and mesh headlight lens covers also come with it. A very small box. Nothing of significant value, but another testament to the care and patronage. Undercarriage --The undercarriage is super dry, solid and completely untouched. A very honest presentation. If it's to your liking, a bit of detailing and even careful application of undercoating could be done, but it was gratifying to see it in the state of preservation.
