Vehicle Detail
This is a 1977 Porsche 911s that has been in my ownership for about 14 years. I am reluctantly selling to fund some construction projects. The body is in superb condition, having had a high end repaint in the original gold metallic color prior to my ownership. There has been no sign of rust, this being the first year of thorough galvanization. A few modifications have been done to make the car more useable. There are the memory foam racing style seats that are more comfortable and supportive than the original tombstone seats. These seats recline and have fore and aft adjustment. A set of factory seats are included but need reupholstered should they be reinstalled. The back seats have been replaced with a custom fiberglass subwoofer box. This could easily be replaced with the original rear seats (included) which are in good condition, but the stereo sounds so much better with the woofer, and the rear seats are useless as seats for human beings. The Nardi wood rimmed steering wheel is a classy item that looks fitting for this car, however the original wheel is included should the next owner prefer originality. The most significant modification to the car being the efi conversion, which was completed about 3 years ago and is fully sorted. The first 11 years of ownership there was a struggle to sort out the CIS system that was in the car. After extensive troubleshooting and parts replacement including pump, accumulator, WUR, Fuel distributor, ect, there always seemed to be a compromise to tune the car for one operating temperature verses another. The fact that they added the popoff to keep from blowing air boxes during warmup is evidence there is an inherent flaw with the system. But it was the best thing in the 70s considering the pollution laws in effect and the technology available. I do not have the cis parts but i can't imagine anyone wanting it except for originality. The efi consists of a custom made powder coated steel airbox, billet fuel rails with ford 25 lb. injectors, and megasquirt 1 controller. The inputs to the controller are Innovate wideband sensor (AF display gauge on console), map, throttle position, air and engine case temp sensors. Stock parts used in this system are the fuel pump, accumulator and throttle body. One advantage of this system is the engine could be modified to higher compression or better cams which is not as possible with the tuning restrictions of the cis. I will include the old dell laptop with software should the next owner want to alter the settings on the efi. The software has an auto tune feature that allows dynamic tuning as you are driving. The 2.7 engine seems to be in good shape. I installed the carrera tensioners some time ago modified with the Jerry Woods style spacers within the tensioner cylinders to limit chain slack. The ignition is points triggering a Jacobs unit. I have recently replaced the camshaft and oil cooler seals. The trombone cooler in front was replaced by the carrera radiator unit with thermostat controlled fan. The engine drips a dime size spot after a hard run, which is typical for a 2.7 of this age, but it does not drip on the exhaust, so there is no smoke. Plans were to address this with upgraded pistons/cams as time and budget would allow, however I feel the car could be used for many miles as it is. Oil pressure runs about 60 psi @3000 rpm fully warmed up. The transmission is in good order and shifts properly. The clutch is ok, does not slip, but I noticed it was close to the adjustment limit when i replaced the cable last year, at which time new bushings were installed in the pedal assembly. The car was originally air conditioned, but the parts in the engine compartment have been removed. The 15" fuchs wheels are in good shape as are the goodyear tires with low mileage. The original owners manual and cover are in the car. The stereo is a Pioneer unit with an aux in, amp is a Kicker zr240, door speakers are kickers top of the line RS6 component set. Headliner is in good shape. The sunroof needs some attention, it worked when i bought the car, but when i checked it last the motor can be heard in either switch position but there is no movement. Overall the car is in unusually good shape for a car of 38 years. I would feel confident to take off on a long journey in the car as it is.
