Vehicle Detail
For sale, my 1997 Chevy cavalier LS. I am the 2nd owner of this car, though technically it’s had 3 titles as I bought it for my late partner from the original owner, a female doctor(~85k miles), and then registered it in my name after my partner passed in 2009. So it was titled in my late partners name for a couple years, but I test drove it, bought it, maintained it, and was mostly me that drove it anyway. So 3 titles but really only 2 effective owners. It has 145,818 miles, but I am still driving it(just went to Rockford 100 miles round trip before listing) and mileage will be a little more at end of auction. Power locks, 2.2L 4 cylinder engine, the 4 speed automatic transmission(base was the 3 speed auto), factory cruise control works great(was option), has A/C though it stopped working a while ago unsure why, antilock brakes and traction control work as they should, power steering, near newer(134,268) 14” tires on the upgraded aluminum alloy rims, 4 door sedan LS model, gets 25-30mpg around town and anywhere from 32-42 on the highway depending on the speed and number of stops(42 was going 15 gallons of the huge 15.2 gallon tank straight without stopping), makes great heat, never overheated or raced, upgraded pioneer head unit with cd player, dash has speedometer tachometer temp and fuel gauge odometer and trip odometer, rear defroster works, interstate green top battery, starts and drives and makes heat fine at -15 degrees recently, spare tire and jack proper and in place, all center caps on rims intact,. Has the upgraded color-matched bumpers instead of the crappy grey plastic ones. Interval wipers. Things replaced: downstream o2 sensor, iridium plugs have about 15k on them, brakes and rotors have about 15-20k on them and are smooth and great(used premium synthetic ceramic pads), fuel filter, tires only have about 11k on them and are in fantastic shape, new water pump and thermostat installed about 3k ago new coolant added at that time, oil changes done every 3k or 3 months and almost always synthetic, always use a filter with a drain back valve to keep engine oiled at startup, control arms have been replaced and car was aligned and drives straight and tight(both at 136,112), New muffler and cat-back pipe done at 135468 for over 300 with the muffler. New serpentine belt just last month. Issues: There is some rust in the usual places for the cavi, under the gas filler door and the kickplate running under the passenger door(see pics, it isn’t bad), repair plates for the two spots online run about 100 dollars for the 2 spots. Otherwise body is in good shape and purple in color, strut towers are 100% solid and pictured. There is a periodic dull clunking noise coming from the rear, first owner said it started about 5k miles after she bought it new, have determined it to be the rear strut tower bushings , they had a factory defect and is a common issue but don’t effect handling, safety, or anything, they just make a clunking noise periodically, new bushings are around 40 bucks on ebay and easily replaced, it just hasn’t bugged me enough to do it. The radio is usually louder than it anyway. The blower motor only works on 2 of the 4 settings, but the first two were pretty useless anyway, think it’s the switch, I just run it on the 3rd setting most the time. Driver window crank knob pops off if you really get at it, it pops right back on so not a big deal. Um…what else…the cosmetic mirror on driver side visor fell off on a 110 degree day, it can be clipped and glued back on but I’m a guy so I never used it anyway. The driver visor also has a tear but my cd holder was always covering it so didn’t bug me. There are a few stains here and there from use. The new serpentine belt chirps a little, unsure if it’s because it’s a cheap napa belt or if it’s just wearing in. Had a gatorback on it before and it was 100% silent, so if it bugs you and doesn’t wear in, I’m sure another gatorback belt would make it quiet again. Rear windows have cheap cling tint. It peels right off if you don't want it, or will stick back on and look nicer by simply spraying on a little water and clinging it back on. Starts, runs, drives straight, stops straight, radio and all accessories except A/C work. All windows work and glass is all good and crack free. Locks work. Doors work. All handles intact. Trunk lock works as well as the release. Back seat folds down for more cargo room as designed. All seatbelts function properly. Stock floor mats included. Interior is reasonable for age without tears and no owners were ever smokers. I’d drive this car anywhere as is. Have taken it to Iowa, Wisconsin, Chicago, South of Atlanta Georgia, frequently go to Rochelle and Rockford etc. A lot of miles are highway. Has driven over 1000 miles straight without issue, range is great too, went to newnan, ga south of Atlanta and stopped for gas only once. That said it is sold as is without any warranty implied or expressed. Car is located in Dekalb, IL and is still being driven daily. Girlfriends mom got her a new car so this one needs to go. Title is in hand free and clear. Normal title, not a salvage or rebuild title. Car has never been in an accident. It is available for sale immediately. Car is for sale locally so it will be removed if it sells before auction end.
