Vehicle Detail
1967 Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GT Veloce Upgraded 1750cc Twin Cam Last year of coveted "Stepped Front" series 105 bodiesA San Jose, CA native All pics in this listing and many more can be seen in this link -- http://s1382.photobucket.com/user/rootedowne/library/1967%20Alfa%20Romeo%20Giulia%20Sprint%20GT%20Velocehttp://s1382.photobucket.com/user/rootedowne/slideshow/1967%20Alfa%20Romeo%20Giulia%20Sprint%20GT%20Veloce Model Year Details - The series 105 coupes were penned in house at the legendary Bertone design group. This particular design was penned by Giorgetto Giugiaro. I've always wondered why this body resonated so much. They always stand out at vintage racing and other classic car events. Mr. Giugiaro penned quite a few classics and eventually was honored as Car Designer of the Century in 1999. As with much good design, subtle refinements that collectively amount to timeless elegance are hallmarks success. This is one of the most approachable Giugiaro designs and arguably one of the more endearing and enduring. Scalino means step in Italian and is used to describe an important design detail of this limited run ('63-67) - the 1/4" offset flat grill. The flat grill and incorporated headlights were revolutionary and very modern for the era. They quickly became influential in the GT sport coupe segment in particular. The balance of sheet metal and generous use of glass and the slim A and graceful C pillars are good examples of what sets this coupe apart -- Veloce means fast and this model was meant to stand out from the crowd. Some of the critical badging and trim details that distinguished the model include the 7 bar center grill, the clover leaf emblems and of course the rear panel emblem -- Vehicle Specifics - She was repainted to it's original white at some point. It has not been driven much since, but still shows signs of use. Careful inspection reveals some chips. These occur at door closures and one near trunk lid. Common usage areas as you'd expect. It has a nice shine and presents very well, but certainly allows for the freedom to explore the arguably even more appealing mechanical attributes! -- Interior Details -- The interior is mostly original. Exceptions include the Flying Buttress seats (used in the 1969 model) and the fire extinguisher (not stock, btw!) The front seats were recently covered in a leather that is a shade darker than the carpet. Those of you who know this era model well will certainly appreciate the desirability of these seats. Super rare and period perfect. An Alfa insider tip to say the least -- The carpet, headliner, door panels, rear seat and hat shelf are very original and in great shape. The dash is covered in it's original faux wood pattern. The steering wheel had a leather wrap on it. I removed it for the photos. There are a couple of splits in the wheel, but I have to admit, the feel and originality of it are very appealing. I certainly wouldn't wrap it, but you could. There is a bit of fading or even peeling on the dash. A very common issues with these vehicles, but wanted to make sure I pointed it out (see glove box) -- Mechanical Details (Euro Spec 1750cc) -- If you have not had the pleasure of driving a Giulia Sprint GT, you are in for a treat. This is a very eager, strong runner. Items like the front skid plate were put on for a reason after all! It prances around in half flexed form ready to rev the twin cam engine. The long term previous owner upgraded to a 1750cc engine. It was sourced from a Euro spec car and he wanted to pay tribute to that fact by retaining the correct air breather for Euro spec engines. A US plenum can be installed, but I have to say this setup serves the car well. Maybe they all have the high tenor shrill in acceleration. This one certainly does and it feels like it comes in part from the canister filling with air -- This car continued Alfa Romeo's long standing as a leader in motorsports. Disc brakes all the way around and a 5 speed transmission were not very common in 1967. Imagine the marks and models that did have them. Very collectible today, for certain. Styling details abound in this year/model. This was made during an interesting transition period. Fantastic aesthetics like the door handle and rear seat courtesy light/grab handle would be phased out in the next decade. Eventually, items like these lost forever. Imagine what it would cost to build delicate details like these today? -- Notable Upgrades -- The front disc brakes were upgraded to a slightly newer model Alfa set. They are even stronger and easier to source parts. Slightly stockier sway bars were installed as well. Wheels were upgraded to Panasport "Banana Spoke" alloys. This was a common upgrade to overcome the tendency stock steel wheels had to flex during hard use. The Simpa side mirrors were added around the same time. Both upgrades are common to BMW 2002, Austin Minis and other sport touring coupes of the day. They are in great shape as well. I've always favored originality, but I have to admit these items do make the car easier to enjoy when actually driving -- Bidding, Shipping and Q&A -- Reserve Price -- Out of fairness for the bidding process, the reserve price will be kept in confidence. Good luck bidding! On Feb-08-15 at 10:28:16 PST, seller added the following information: Just added pics of undercarriage -- I've had quite a few questions regarding undercarriage. I recently had it in the shop to have the entire brake system rebuilt, the carbs set and a tune-up. We all commented on how nice the undercarriage looked, but I didn't think to snap any photos. I just loaded some pics to the photobucket site (see link). They should be at the very end of the album. They aren't great because I had to take them lying on my back with the car on the ground. But, they should at least expose the thorough undercoating that seems to have held up nicely. Exhaust, brake lines and suspension components are also solid. Thanks for all the interest - wow!. Good luck bidding.
