Vehicle Detail
1981 Limited Edition El Camino SS 305 Factory 4 Speed Very few (488) 81 El' Camino's were built with factory 4 speed, even fewer of the SS model, bucket seats and counsel in this style. A PPG Global Master Certified Technician refinished the car with a 5-stage Harlequin. From the book Standard Catalog of Chevelle - 1964-1987: El Camino total production for 1981 - 37,533 1.3% were four speed transmissions or roughly 488 The car was featured in the National El Camino Owners Association Magazine May addition in 2011 (See attached picture) *Read the following message I received from a helpful person when I last listed the car on Ebay: “Just an FYI, in 1980 there were 544 ElCamino V8 4 speeds made, they are fairly rare and indeed a cool car! I currently own 7 El Camino's and one of them is a 1980 SS 305 4 speed, out of the 544 made less than 1/2 were the SS model. Very very sweet car, I wish you the best of luck selling it! I've only seen 4 of these cars and owned 2, one of which I did a frame off restoration on (an SS model) and it currently sits at the GM Museum in Michigan!” My grandpa was the original owner who bought it and then passed it down to my dad and then to me. There will be others around but this one is special. These cars are more rare than you think. you cant even find them in the junk yard any more. Just take a look at eBay at what some of the parts sell for now, like tail lights and dash parts door panels and such. my point is put it away till you can afford to fix it up. A 1970 elky is worth 20 - $30,000 now ,all fixed up... If you let it go I guarantee you will remember this letter when a "SWEET" El Camino cruzes by you in a parking lot 10 years from now. Just Sayin.. Best of Luck” - Wisebuyzinc “You are correct with how rare of a car the v8 4 speeds are. I currently have a 1980 El camino 4 speed, v8, almost a twin to yours. My color is cinnabar. It took me almost twelve years of searching to find the one I currently own. Do you have a build sheet?I found two on mine, one above gas tank and one above headliner. There are several people trying to clone these cars, I can say that yours appears to be the real thing, very nice car! I think the g body s; El camino is the last true full framed ,rear wheel drive, v8,4 speed car to be produced ever?I could be wrong on that.It would take big money before I would let mine go. Your production number are also what I have been told. Although mine is one of 260 produced with the options it carries. Good luck selling it!” - littlevarg
