Vehicle Detail
I bought this 1966 beauty from the original owner in 1968 when I was 19. She had 19,000 miles on her and I paid $1,900 for her. She's not a hot rod and has never been treated like one, but she is responsive and the super two-speed automatic transmission shifts down easily even at relatively high RPM to give her an exciting kick when needed. A 283 C.I.D. with a 2 bbl carburetor is standard. Always been garaged and seldom was late for required maintenance through out her life time. There is no rust anywhere. She was a daily driver until 1979 then stored in my barn until 2009 when I and my son began modest preparations, anticipating professional restoration. She has been progressively restored until last summer after replacing the convertible hydraulic top pump. The entire front end, including steering and suspension components have been renewed. She sits a little high in the front because of the new front suspension, but inexpensive fixes to that are easily made.Replaced parts include the generator, fuel pump and lines, water pump, valve covers, electronic distributor and plug wires, billet lower fan pulley, steering box, stainless heater hoses and flex-screen stainless radiator hose. The brake reservoir and brakes were upgraded,. a tachometer, heat, oil pressure and amp gauges were added. The top is new as are the front door skins and front seat upholstery and carpets. The drive train, all matching numbers have never required any repair and remain original. Mag wheels with spinner caps were a must to reflect the era. The only place I went outside the original configuration was the change from a single exhaust to a stainless steel, custom, dual exhaust that purrs until acceleration adds the sound associated with a built up '66 small block. All of the work was accomplished by high-end professional shops. The fit and finish on the body work and amazing paint, to original specifications to the original color, are award wining. This is a beautiful, dependable Chevelle, in a rare Chevelle non-S/S convertible configuration. I resisted the temptation to clone her to S/S configuration because she is so unusual. I know this car is worth more to me than to anyone else, but I have no heirs interested in her and I can use the cash. This is a cash for title only transaction. Buyer is responsible for all arrangements to deliver the cash and pick up the car. With a new oil/filter change and perhaps a safety front-end alignment, I would be confident she can drive across he country without concern.
