Vehicle Detail
We bought this car 5 years ago with the intention of using it around town and on weekend trips, but due to a change in commute have needed to replace it with a new car. It runs and drives very well. The Odometer reads 70,319 miles but has not worked at all since we have owned this car. I make no claims as to what the actual miles might be. We have kept track of gas purchases and estimate that 4,500 miles have been put on the car since the 2011 engine rebuild (based on 25mpg). It's been a very gently and lightly used car since we bought it and we have always endeavored to make comprehensive repairs, like replacing all the wheel bearings (front and back) when one went out and doing a complete brake job including calipers, rotors, wheel cylinders, flexible brake lines, pads, shoes, and a full brake fluid flush. We had intended to keep this car a long time and did not want recurring problems. The rebuilt motor is strong with a Weber carb and a Pertronix electronic ignition. The body is straight though there are rust spots, dings and scratches. The front steering and suspension has been completely rebuilt as has much of the rear suspension. Front tires are Toyo with at least 80% of the tread left. Rears are Michelin with about 50% tread. The car has current registration and insurance in Washington State. Clear title is in hand. It does show it's 38 years and could use some body work. It's been repainted at least once by a prior owner and that paint is peeling and fading in several areas. The rust is mostly superficial and is detailed in the photos. The driver's seat floorpan was rusted through and new sheet metal has been welded into place, but this is not a professional repair and will probably need to be redone at some point. The spare tire well was also rusted through and the holes have been closed up by a welder, but again it will likely need further attention. The window and door seals are old and cracked and the trunk seal has come out of place. The seats have apparently been reupholstered by a previous owner and are in decent shape aside from the back having come off of the driver's seat (see photo). The unattached seat-back is included in this listing. The center console is a non BMW replacement, though many of the original parts are included. There are aftermarket oil and temp gauges that have not been connected. The original equipment gauges and sensors still work. The dash is cracked in several places. The glass is all in good condition with some scratches and pitting but no cracks. Overall, the car at present is perfectly drivable. The body is straight and it would be an excellent candidate for a full restoration, or just keep it as a weekend car as we used it. Documentation for most of the work we've done is available on request, as are additional photos. This car is originally from California and was fitted with California emissions equipment. This equipment has all been removed and/or disconnected.
