Vehicle Detail
I am the third owner of this mostly original truck. I have had the truck for 28 years, but have known the truck since it first showed up around my home town. Originally, this truck was bought at the Chevy dealer in Meade, Ks. and used on a ranch as the "town truck," used for errands to town and hauling supplies. Not the typical farm truck of this era that is worn out and beat up. It was traded in and bought by an older man in Plains, Ks. where I grew up. This gentleman was retired and lived a mile from town and drove it daily. My brother ended up marrying this man's granddaughter. The truck was stored in a shed for 10 years after the grandpa died, and I got it when the estate was being sold off in 1987. I did a light restoration. My Dad and I worked over what needed done mechanically. Some body and paint. Original color was green. I used the truck for a daily driver for a few years, then to go to lumber yard, dump, and occasionally hauling my golf cart. Had around 48,000 miles when the odometer stopped working. I estimate no more than 60,000 miles total. When my daughters got old enough for cars, the truck got pushed outside the garage and spent the last 10 years there. Therefore, the paint became faded. I decided to go ahead and restore her last year. To start, I had a reputable shop go through her mechanically. Dropped pan and checked out lower end. Crank, connecting rods, bearings all good. In fact, mechanic was impressed with how good everything looked. Good compression on all cylinders. Adjusted valves, installed carburetor kit. Flushed transmission and differential. Replaced valve cover, side cover gaskets, and rear seal. New starter, master and slave cylinders, brake pads and lines, and exhaust. Now, his truck doesn't leave a drop of any fluid on the driveway, which is amazing for this vintage. Tires are very good...less than 4 years old. We moved to Wichita July 1st and I drove the truck the 80 miles and she ran as smooth as could be at 50-60 mph. I then started on the interior. Interior has been buffed and paint touched up with original gray. New door panels, headliner, visors, and floor mat. Very clean and rust-free. At this point, I was ready to turn it over to be finished by my body/paint guy, but I realized that living in the city, I would not drive the truck as much, and would be creating a garage queen. I decided it was time to pass her along to someone who could drive and enjoy her, and decide about body work and paint. Here is what the truck needs to be really slick. Metal work on driver side front fender and in front of door. Rest of truck is very straight and as good as any truck of this era you will find. I buffed out the paint, but it needs repainted to really be what she can be. The glass has some clouding, and should be replaced. Two new corner windows I bought at an auction go with the sale. Also, I have a outside visor for the front of the cab that is included as well. (See pics) Stainless steel in grill needs straightened. Shock absorbers need replaced. Finally, the metal of the bed is very good with only surface rust, but the wood in the bed is rotten and needs a replacement kit. All in all, probably one of the best trucks of this era you will find. I have mixed feelings about letting her go, I could restore her to a very high, original condition with just paint and body work, but realize I would not drive her enough anymore and she has done her job for our family. Taught my daughters to drive a stick, hauled landscape and building materials for renovation of our former house, and was such a blast to drive and cool to own. Bid if interested...she is going to sell. You won't be disappointed. Truck is for sale locally, so may not be available for long. Uploaded all pics I could get to work. Call me and I can send some more if interested. 620-388-0138 AndyOn Nov-10-14 at 21:35:18 PST, seller added the following information:
