Vehicle Detail

This Mach1 is truly one of those "barn finds", which was found several years ago in Nebraska, in a barn (honestly). The car had been sitting in a barn, off the road since the late 1980s. I believe I am the 3rd owner and I have a clear title. This Mach 1 will require a complete restoration. While by no means rust free, it appears to be quite solid, due mostly to the fact that she sat dry and inside for decades. See photos and further description and make your own assessment. Contact me if you wish to schedule on-site review of the car prior to bidding. History: As explained to me, the 2nd owner drove the Mach1 for several years and had plans to eventually modify and race the car. He therefore completely disassembled the car in the late 80's, began some rust removal work, paid for some minor engine service and stored it away in the family's barn. Fortunately, he never got around to modifying or racing the car and it sat stored away in the barn until I bought it two decades later. The engine still retains it's original belts. I purchased the car when it was still disassembled. I brought it home and "kinda" reassembled it, meaning that I put a couple of bolts back into each piece so that I could see what was missing. As you can see in the photos, nothing lines up well, not because it had suffered an accident, but rather because I merely threw fenders/doors/etc on quickly with a couple bolts so that I could see what was missing. I had plans to restore it and it has sat "kinda" reassembled for half a decade. As far as I can tell, the car is miraculously missing only a few items including the right rear mach1 trim panel and the correct mach1 grille (I have the correct mach 1 grille lights). NOTE: I am sure there will be other missing parts but this is a car in need of complete restoration and I find it remarkably complete. The bumpers are believed to be NOS (with some shelf wear) and the front grille, while not correct for a Mach1 is also NOS. The rims are factory original and the dates on each rim match the car. All the glass is original except for the windshield which broke during the move. I purchased an NOS windshield which goes with the car. The interior appears to be mostly complete, but some of it remains stored in boxes. To the best of my understanding, the numbers on the engine and the transmission correlate with (derivative of) the VIN, meaning this is a numbers-matching Mach 1. The VIN is 0F05H198514. The number stamped on the driver's side of the rear of the engine block is 1985*4 (*I cannot be certain I can make out the 1, all of the numbers are stamped very lightly). The number stamped into the transmission housing is 198514 (The "1" is stamped upside down which I have seen before and find interesting/funny pertaining to Ford's process in this time period). As stated, the car had some rust in the 80s when it was taken apart and the 2nd owner did a reasonable job of beginning to correct it (including what appears to be some media blasting underneath the car). The front frame rails appear to be pretty solid and the entire engine bay is rust free except for some very light surface rust from sitting without paint for decades. The car has had a few metal patches installed, including in the floor pans. The trunk floor has some small holes (see photos). I believe there was/is rust and/or holes in the tail light panel as well, behind the honeycomb Mach1 trim. The rear frame rails look very solid to me, but I do see at least one rust hole in the passenger side rail that may require attention (see photo). The bottoms of the doors and deck lid appear to have had rust and were welded and/or seam-sealed at some point in time (See photos). The 351 Cleveland engine and automatic transmission are on stands at this time. I cannot speak to the condition of the engine or transmission other than to convey the previous owner stated he was driving the car right up to the point he disassembled it in the 80s. I have the original intake manifold and carb and will include them with this sale. On the engine at this moment is an aluminum intake. The rear axle and staggered shocks appear clean and are believed to be original to this car but I know nothing about their mechanical condition nor can I guarantee they are indeed original to this car. Many of the parts (interior and mechanical) are presently stored in containers and will go with the car. As stated earlier, I believe the vast majority of the car is accounted for, but the buyer should expect some parts to be missing. I will not be responsible for missing pieces. I think this car will make an excellent candidate for concours restoration simply because it's never been butchered and retains the vast majority of its original parts. I do believe that at least some of the car was repainted at some point in time and it appears (to me, a non-expert) that the color was kept the same because areas showing what I believe to be factory paint overspray appear to me the same color as all other paint on the car. As stated earlier, some media blasting appears to have been performed. There is some signs of paint cracking on the quarter panels (see photo) and some evidence or previous metal work/welding (see photo). NOTE: The mileage is completely unknown. The odometer reads 05722 (see photo) but I have no clue whatsoever what the mileage was when it was parked in the 80s. Repeat: I have no idea what the real mileage is for this car. I can only specify what the odometer reads as I purchased the vehicle (05722). I have done my best to describe this Mach 1's condition, through words and photos but I am not an expert on these cars and therefore cannot be held accountable for mistakes. Ask questions if something is unclear or contact me to schedule an inspection. The car is sold as-is without any warranty of any kind. I will require the buyer to sign a bill of sale stating he/she was given teh opportunity to inspect the car prior to payment and accepts the condition of the car as-is and that the sale is final. A $500 non-refundable deposit is due within 48 hours of auction close. *Buyer must contact me through ebay to ensure the correct paypal information is being used before attempting to make any payment. I will also accept a cashier's check. Full payment is required before the car leaves my possession. The car must be picked up within fourteen (10) days of auction close. Arranging pick-up and transport of the car is the responsibility of the buyer. The car rolls but does not run and has no brakes at this time. The steering is not connected at this time. The engine and transmission are no installed in the car. The engine stand shown in the photo is not included. I reserve the right to end the auction at any time. On Nov-12-14 at 13:44:37 PST, seller added the following information: In response to bidder questions, I am adding a picture of the rear axle and the body buck tag. As previously stated, I am not an expert on these cars, yet I wish to describe this Mach1 to the best of my ability. Please see these two additional photos and ask questions as necessary. Thanks. On Nov-14-14 at 11:29:09 PST, seller added the following information: Someone asked for a picture of the engine bay, taken from a different angle. Therefore I have added another picture. Again, I know very little about these cars, but it looks pretty clean to me for having sat like this for decades.
