Vehicle Detail
This was my late father's farm truck. It's been stored in a barn since the 1990's. He was told by the previous owner that the engine is a 1948 217. I can't verify that for certain, but it does have the tiny 1940's spark plugs and a Carter W-1 carburetor. It starts, revs and idles very nicely on all 6 cylinders, with almost 30 lbs of oil pressure at start-up, 15 lbs when hot at mid rpm, and 8-10 lbs at hot idle, all within spec for a splash oiler of this vintage. No knocks or noisy bearings. See pic of oil pressure and ammeter with engine running. No oil or antifreeze leaks. The 3-speed manual tranny works in all gears. No brakes at this time as the master cylinder needs to be rebuilt or replaced. The 6-volt generator charges the battery. Most electrical parts work including the headlights, tail lights, horn, and dash lights. Heater heats, and the vacuum windshield wipers sort of work if you turn them on and off. It looks like aftermarket turn signals have been added, they don't seem to work. The suicide knob on the steering wheel has been removed and is not included. An original GM ignition key works and is included, but it doesn't seem to work in the passenger door. And there's no keyhole on the driver's door, no idea why. There is some rust as seen in the pictures. Mainly front driver's cab corner and front panel of box. Included is a better (but not perfect) replacement front box panel that could be restored. The frame looks to be very solid with only surface rust throughout. Battery box holds battery but has holes as usual. Dents are as seen in the pictures. The cab looks to have been painted before my dad got it. It looks like it's still in its original factory color. Front glass is good, corner glass is good. The sharp-looking windshield visor has what looks like hail damage (only on the visor), but could easily be fixed. Door glass broken and missing, rear glass has a couple chips in it. The tires are ancient but hold air except for the driver's front. That one will hold air long enough to load onto a trailer though. So this is essentially an original truck that could be used as a running farm truck with a few minor repairs. or restored to whatever level the next owner desires.
