Vehicle Detail
This numbers-matching Mach1 is truly one of those "barn finds", which was found several years ago in Nebraska, in a barn (honestly). The car had been sitting in a barn, off the road since the late 1980s. I believe I am the 3rd owner and I have a clear title. While certainly requiring complete restoration, it is my opinion that this Mach 1 is much more solid that most unrestored '70 mustangs you will find, due mostly to the fact that she sat dry and inside for decades. See photos and description and make your own assessment. History: the 2nd owner drove the Mach1 for several years and had plans to eventually modify and race the car. He therefore completely disassembled the car in the late 80's, removed what rust had began on the pans, paid for some minor engine service and stored it away in the family's barn. Fortunately, he never got around to altering or racing the car and it sat stored away in the barn until I bought it two decades later. The engine still retains it's original belts. I purchased the car when it was still disassembled. I brought it home and "kinda" reassembled it, meaning that I put a couple of bolts back into each piece so that I could see what was missing. As you can see in the photos, nothing lines up well, not because it had suffered an accident, but rather because I merely threw fenders/doors/etc on quickly with a couple bolts so that I could see what was missing. As far as I can tell, the car is miraculously missing only a few items including the right rear mach1 trim panel and the correct mach1 grille (I have the correct mach 1 grille lights). I am sure there will be other missing parts but this is a car in need of complete restoration and giving it's unrestored state, I find it remarkably complete and original. The bumpers are believed to be NOS and the front grille, while not correct for a Mach1 is NOS. The rims are factory original and the dates on each rim match the car. All the glass is original except for the windshield which broke during the move. I purchased an NOS windshield which goes with the car. The numbers on the engine and the transmission match the VIN, meaning this is a numbers-matching Mach 1. As stated, the car had some rust in the 80s when it was taken apart and the 2nd owner did a reasonable job of stopping it and beginning to correct it. The front frame rails appear to be pretty solid and the entire engine bay is rust free except for some very light surface rust from sitting without paint for decades. The car has had a few metal patches installed, including in the floor pans. The trunk floor has some small holes (see photos). I believe there are small holes in the tail light panel as well, behind the honeycomb Mach1 trim. The rear frame rails look very solid to me, but I do see at least one small hole in the passenger side rail that may require attention (see photo). The 351 Cleveland engine and automatic transmission are on stands at this time. I cannot speak to the condition of the engine and transmission other than the previous owner stated the car ran and drove well when disassembled in the 80s. Both the engine and transmission are very clean and the numbers stamped into each correspond with the car's VIN. I have the original intake manifold and will include it with this sale. On the engine at this moment is an aluminum intake. The rear axle and staggered shocks appear clean and are believed to be original to this car but I know nothing about their mechanical condition. Many of the parts (interior and mechanical) are presently stored in containers and will go with the car. As stated earlier, I believe the vast majority of the car is accounted for, but expect some parts to be missing. I will not be responsible for missing pieces. I think this car will make an excellent candidate for concours restoration simply because it's never been butchered and retains the vast majority of its original parts. The mileage is completely unknown. The odometer reads 05722 (see photo) but I have no clue whatsoever what the mileage was when it was parked in the 80s. I have done my best to describe this Mach 1's condition, through words and photos but I am not an expert on these cars and therefore cannot be held accountable for mistakes. Ask questions if something is unclear or contact me to schedule an inspection. The car is sold as-is without any warranty of any kind. A $500 non-refundable deposit is due within 48 hours of auction close. Full payment is required before the car leaves my possession. The car must be picked up within fourteen (14) days of auction close. Arranging pick-up and transport of the car is the responsibility of the buyer. The car rolls but as stated does not run and has no brakes at this time. The steering is not connected at this time.
