Vehicle Detail

It with quite a lot of emotion that I’m parting with our much loved Ram Charger! I bought this vintage, classic and AWESOME MOPAR RC from the son of the man who ordered it from Lee’s Summit MO back in 1983. The father passed away and the son was also emotionally attached to it, so he put it into one of his climate controlled storage units and drove it every week or so to keep fluids moving. This RC only has 35,575 miles on it as I type this! Yep, that it correct. I don’t have the previous owners service records, but I did get a statement from the son that I bought it from. I have been a cop for 25 years, and I know when someone is being straight, he was! My mechanic agrees with the mileage as he works on it from time to time. The only reason that I’m selling it, and my wife isn’t happy about it, is due to the fact that I didn’t show it in one single car show in 2014. What I did do is drive it on sunny days to work and back and on the weekends we hooked up our little canoe/kayak trailer to it and drove the family to the river. Every time we took it to the river or lake I frantically vacuumed and washed it afterward. And every time I saw an ad for a car show to attend, the family would want to go to the water instead. I’m probably sounding like a jerk, but I’m not. I want to pass this beautiful Dodge to someone who will use it and show it off the way it should be! I absolutely LOVE Mopar trucks and Ram Chargers and I just bought a stripped down, rubber floor mats, crank windows and vinyl seats 1990 version for the river trips. I hope you get what I’m saying! Here are the things that that you sure wouldn’t have to do, but you could do if you want an absolutely perfect example of a 30 years old Dodge SUV: The driver’s side cargo light that is mounted just below the driver’s side back window, opposite the spare tire, has a dime sized hole it is. It could be a melt spot from bulb, it’s very round. Light works fine. (Tried a picture but light is on and floods out quality) Very slight paint scratch or thinning from bug guard that was mounted. I took it off to make rig more original. (Photo) There are VERY small bubbles on the lower rear quarter panels, where tail pipes used to come out from exhaust system. That area is the ONLY place the previous owner had rust repaired. It has not changed in my 27 months of ownership, and was pretty hard to photograph. The only way you can see it is when you do a VERY close inspection. When I buy a vintage car or truck I use a magnet to check for filler. All wheel wheels and rocker panels etc are pure factory steel on this RC. There is a molding piece about 5” above those areas, so easy fix it you choose. (Photo) Very slight dis-colored areas on the very top of door panels, maybe from an arm rising there or the sun? For shows in 2012 and 2013 I used a Armor All type restoring spray and cloth and it hid that almost completely. (Photo) A few very minor tears in door weather stripping pieces. They are low and so small you have to search for them. The rear tire mount gives a little squeak when truck is going over bumps. I could probably spray WD-40 in the mount, but never did. Also, kinda funny, the 4x4 lever KNOB had a squeak between 57-62 MPH on highway, not below and not above, WEIRD! This is NOT mechanical! There are some real small “waves” along top of driver’s side fender, but it almost looks like something other than being struck with something. I have seen two other RCs with exact same thing! Could this be normal? You can only see it when you get down low and look down the piece for shadows. (Couldn’t capture in photos well) There is an approx. quarter sized dent in the rear chrome bumper, very small. I didn’t worry about any of this stuff and it won several trophies tons of comments and cruises and shows!!! (Photo) Just a little bit of surface rust at the seam along rear cargo area (Photo) I took a photo of the garage floor under the motor. VERY small leaks that I use a rag to clean up about once a month, if that. I hadn’t cleaned the floor for a couple of weeks when I took that photo. May need valve cover tightened, just haven’t done it. Super small tranny leak, but I never have to add fluid and it’s clear red. Now to talk about the good, no GREAT! This truck is a turn key, drive anywhere in the northern hemisphere example of a past era of American know how! Other than what I mentioned above, just imagine a BRAND NEW, 1984 Ram Charger as it came home for the first time and this is what you have here! I tried and tried to document everything that one might notice and I had to stretch to do that! This truck starts up first turn (pump it a bit if cold, its old school carb and not EFI). It is so trustworthy and has never stranded me or let me down one time! It runs and idles so smoothly that at a red light, you think it died, but it’s just that smooth. The auto transmission shifts perfect. A/C blows cold (still original R12)Headliner tight and color matched (I had it redone to factory specs in 2012)Stainless and chrome very shinyPaint nearly all original and shiny (extremely small scratches I guess, but super nice)318 Motor runs smooth as silkHas a moon roof that has two perfectly work matches and hinge, no leaks either! Rear vent also works perfect and no leaks.Power windows and locks perfect, and fast windows!Cruise, all gauges, everything works perfect!Rear hatch pistons raise up smoothly and hold tail gate up at max. Seats, carpet, dash, gauges, steering wheel, tire cover, all look NEW!!!Al locks, including front storage between captain chairs and glove box work perfectly. All glass perfectStock wheels and wheel cover hub caps are really nice. Good tires that I rotate regularly. I use racing oil in it with zinc for protection. Good idea in older rides!I have all maintenance records since I bought it.I put an H-Pipe into exhaust at muffler shop, the Cat converters are hollow. Chrome tips out back below rear bumper. It sound awesome, not loud, but gutsy! It was and still is my toy, so I replaced some gaskets, rebuilt steering box to tighten steering up, AND ALWAYS KEPT UP ROUTINE STUFF!This is the very nice Prospector Royal SE package: wood grain interior, power everything, lots of stainless and bold moldings, very hi-roller for its time! I have 100% Positive and have been an Ebayer for 14 years. This is the very first car or truck that I have sold on Ebay. I also have it for sale locally and I can stop auction of I sell it here. That would save Ebay fees and commission. I started bidding at $6,000, which I think is very fair for this beautiful and vintage Dodge! Oh it comes with the rubber floor mats, I bought them to ease the pain of the river trips. My family calls me “old man” now thanks to my Ram Charger freak outs. You will need to come to Springfield MO to pick it up if you win, or I will have to confirm legitimate payment prior to releasing it to a transport company of course! I would NOT hesitate to drive this Ram Charger to anyplace in the US!!! It is a ROCK. Fly in or drive here, I’ll pick you up and away you go. Title is clear and ready for me to sign. Like I said, all belts and houses are great. I just changed the oil too. Wix filter of course. If you have been looking for a time capsule Dodge Ram Charger from the 80’s you would not be disappointed in this one! I’m not at all, I just have to hope someone takes it home to treasure it like I did, but show it more and keep the wet swimsuits and graveling feet out of it! I can’t think of anything else. I tried to be open, honest and transparent here. If you have any questions at all or want a photo of something in particular please let me know! Best of luck if you bid! This one is special and these are becoming more and more rare! Kev
