Fast is another word to describe it, with a potent 347 stroker motor under the hood and more than a few performance upgrades that give it the moves of one of its big block brothers without the weight. There's probably twice the asking price involved in the restoration of this pony and it shows. The bodywork is arrow-straight, with a good amount of effort invested in making sure everything was just right before any of the code T Candyapple Red paint was applied. This car comes with its original door tag and we can confirm that the color combination is correct, but no Mustang ever looked this good sitting in a 1969 showroom. Yes, the two-stage urethane paint is just too shiny and the panel gaps are probably better than any assembly line job, regardless of Ford's claims to the contrary. There are no fake badges, no Mach 1 or Shelby decals, just a clean, solid Mustang with all the secrets hiding under its skin. The chrome bumpers have been restored, the original polished rocker moldings glitter, and the overall look says "performance." Fortunately, this Mustang fits the bill in that regard. The code 2D bright red bucket seat interior is also correct for this particular car, and the combination is sporty and upscale, ideally suited to the Mustang's mission. The overall look is quite tidy and you'll have dreams about actually sitting behind the wheel, as all the factory patterns and materials have been reproduced. The driver gets a set of big round dials in deep recesses, all of which are in good condition. Regular readers already know that we're fans of the bare-bones look of a shifter sticking out of the transmission tunnel, and you may note with some surprise that there are five gears on that Hurst cue ball, not just four. There's also a newer AM/FM stereo radio in the original radio's slot right below the power top switch, which actuates a nice-fitting black convertible top. The trunk is outfitted with a plaid mat and a full-sized spare, as well as a matching red vinyl boot for the top. This car is originally an F-code 302 cubic inch V8 with a 2-barrel carb, and while it still technically carries a 302 block, it has been punched out to 347 cubes. With a big 4-barrel carb up top and a set of aluminum heads to shave weight, it offers a rumbling idle and crisp throttle response that move the convertible with genuine authority. It's dressed like it's still living in the '60s, with a Ford Blue block and finned valve covers, and a matching air cleaner, not to mention a chrome Monte Carlo bar that really tightens up the front end. Long-tube headers dump into a mellow-sounding dual exhaust system that will surely sound familiar to owners of late-model Mustangs and the aforementioned Tremec 5-speed manual transmission makes this a fantastic highway car thanks to a deep overdrive working in conjunction with what appear to be 2.83 gears out back (according to the door tag). Gorgeous 17-inch Torque Thrust wheels make it look aggressive and carry right-sized performance radials that fit under the fenders exactly right. This car would be impossible to duplicate at this price, and offers a real Jekyll-and-Hyde personality.
