Vehicle Detail
I bought this Viper in 1997 from the original owner. This viper is stock except for two significant enhancements. First in August 2000, I installed a factory fresh transmission at 20,500 miles for $4300. The original transmission lacked 'reverse-lockout' which was an engineering flaw. I think that vipers after 1994 have the flaw fixed. Later in 2004 I upgraded the exhaust for $3600. This exhaust upgrade boosts horsepower using Borla cat-back mufflers and Edelbrock Headers. Also I replaced the tires. The car is on its second set of Michelins. Additionally the car comes with a rare accesory, the removeable hard-top. Also, I have the soft-top from the factory. Ebay only lets me post 24 photos of this car. If you want to see more photos I have them hosted on flickr. E-me if you want the flickr link to all the photos. Currently the car is in Los Altos Northern California near I-280. I'm selling the car because it takes too much storage space in my garage. It's my understanding that 1993 Vipers were hand-built so the manufacturing quality is high. The 1994 Vipers were the first assembly-line Vipers. My 93 Viper has 2 other bits of info. First, the battery resides under the spare tire in the back to enhance weight distribution. Also the radio antenna sprouts from the driver-side rear fender rather than the front. For some reason these placements are rare features. This car runs well and has more power than a stock 93 Viper (due to the exhaust upgrade). The pitch of the exhaust sound is higher than stock. When the motor gets over 3,000 RPM it sounds more like an airplane than a muscle-car. I would love to see additional photos on the flickr link if possible? Are you able to make a video to hear the car run? Thanks! - hhhhhh Click "respond" to reply through Messages, or go to your email to reply Respond H, I like your idea of a video; I will work on that. Stay tuned! I give the paint quality a B+. Photos: [ flickr link prohibited by ebay ] I was VERY careful driving this car BUT I did put 27,000 miles on it. So, you will see wear on the underside of the nose: [ flickr link prohibited by ebay ] [ flickr link prohibited by ebay ] The car has been under roof or cover most of its life so I detect no Sun damage. The main mechanical issue is old/weak battery. I trickle charge it the first of every month. The battery needs to be replaced. Also I had my mechanic disable the electronic 'kill-switch' due to a bug I encountered in 2001. Now the kill-switch is disabled. This is actually a good thing. On early vipers (I think) if the battery ever goes completely dead, the kill-switch will set itself to 'on'. Once the battery is charged, sometimes it is/was difficult to set the kill-switch to off. So, on my viper the kill-switch is permanently off. Here is a further list of cosmetic issues: Dent of exaust cover under passenger door: [ flickr link prohibited by ebay ] Scratched rims: [ flickr link prohibited by ebay ] [ flickr link prohibited by ebay ] [ flickr link prohibited by ebay ] [ flickr link prohibited by ebay ] Worn black paint where hood edge rests near windshield: [ flickr link prohibited by ebay ] [ flickr link prohibited by ebay ] Worn red paint on right edge of motor valve cover: [ flickr link prohibited by ebay ] Another issue with early vipers is the temperature gauge of the coolant. According to my mechanic, these gauges were not properly calibrated: [ google link prohibited by ebay ] So the gauge shows yellow when the coolant is actually okay. Also the radiator needs to be 'burped', which I have done. After burping the radiator, I took care to leave the radiator cap on and thus prevent air from getting into the cooling system. Dan On Oct-19-14 at 10:44:44 PDT, seller added the following information: Mike, My car (and other 'early vipers') have no AC. My car does have heat. My car does have a catalytic converter and my car has always passed Calif-smog test. Also the car is currently registered and street legal to drive. Dan On Oct-19-14 at 17:50:32 PDT, seller added the following information: I just created 4 short videos of my Viper. They are up on flickr in .MOV format. They may not play in your browser but flickr will allow you to download them. Once they are on your laptop, you can use a movie player to play them. e-me for the links. dan dot bikle at gmail On Oct-23-14 at 21:47:45 PDT, seller added the following information: Dear Buyer, I advise that you NOT drive this car to IA. You may encounter rain on the way. Most early vipers (and my viper) leak a lot of water through the side windows during rain storms. These vipers have no windows. Dodge provided window like things called curtains. The only other vehicles which have curtains are Jeeps. These curtains are made from clear plastic and canvas. If you look at other ads for early vipers, you will see curtains in some of them. Also do a google image search for 'Dodge Viper Side Curtains'. Early vipers are well suited for dry places like Southern Calif and Arizona. If you do buy my viper and drive it to IA, I urge you to buy water-tight after market windows.
