Vehicle Detail
Over the years I have envisioned resurrecting my 1988 K100 RS and converting her into a cafe racer. That project just never happened and now I realized that its time to just let her go. I am the second owner of this bike and I purchased it from a family friend in 1997. I only ridden the bike about 6000 miles of the last 17 years. The bike now has only 29,912 original miles on it. Like I said, I planed on converting it to a cafe a racer so sometime in the past I removed the whole front 80's looking fairing , so I no longer have it. However, I do still have the side covers, bottom fairing and the two side boxes. It also has a custom Corbin seat and a Works performance air adjustable rear shock. Recently, within this year, I replaced the coolant, thermostat, air filter, fuel filter, oil and filter. I would recommend changing the oil again because it has not been run in a while. I also removed the fuel injectors and had them cleaned and rebuilt. The bike does start and run and it can be demonstrated. The paint on the bike I would say is about a eight out of ten. One of the side boxes does have a scrape in the paint but they do work and they are in great shape. The tires have a lot of tread left on them but they might be getting a little hard from sitting. While trying to get her back on the road I discovered a couple of things that I think it needs. It needs a fuel pump. The original fuel pump seized up so I used one from a BMW car I borrowed from my neighbor. I need to give it back. It also needs a new battery. It currently has a golf cart battery (also my neighbors) in it for starting proposes only. And it will definitely will need a front headlight and turn signals to make it street legal. Other than those issues the bike seems mechanically in good condition. it shifts nicely and doesn't leak a drop. With a little research on Ebay you can score a fuel pump for about $35. Everything else is up to you what you choose to put on the bike. With little time and effort this would make a really cool vintage BMW motorcycle. Again, this bike does start and run but it is not possible to ride it because of the items listed above. I believe I have described the bike to the best of my ability. I am not a certified BMW motorcycle mechanic and my diagnostic of the bike could be wrong. It does have a clean and clear title and I am will put a $5 purchase price on the bill of sale to help with the taxes. The bike is only available for local pick up at my residence.
