Vehicle Detail

1940 Chevrolet Pickup "Clarence" NO RESERVE - 75 PHOTOS Thanks for checking out"Clarence" my beautiful 1940 Chevrolet 1/2 Ton Short box pickup. This truck is equipped with a Chevrolet Deluxe Heater, which works excellent, GM Spot Lights, GM Fan, Coker Wide Whites, New Oak Bed. Every time I walk by this truck, and especially when I am behind the wheel, I get super excited, there is just something really special about it. I love the patina, I love the way it runs and drives, best of all, everywhere I take it, people wave, and flock around it. It has an excellent body, I detailed the whole engine compartment, brand new Oak bed in it, Coker Wide White Walls, this truck, is pretty much a finished product right now, just drive it and enjoy it just the way it looks. My next plans were to lower it, he would just look super nice, but going to leave that up to the next owner, because, the truck is so stock, and the body is so nice, if someone wanted to have it painted, and keep it stock they could. This truck is an open canvas for anyone, right now. The 1940 trucks are hard to find, believe they made them from 1937-40. I have entered about 75 photos of this beautiful truck, please take your time and study the photos, ask questions if needed, you can call me, or email, would love to talk to you about Clarence. This is the kind of truck, that any fella/gal would love to take his wife/husband or girlfriend/boyfriend, significant other, out in, it runs great, theheat works great, it is clean inside, it is just a cool old truck. Clarence has a great body, very nice curves, and very solid. These trucks in this era were just outstanding looking when it came to styling. The paint on it has lots of Patina, it was repainted in the late 60's, and it is perfectly worn. When first got it he was faded out, so I waxed Clarence up, and he came out beautiful. This is REAL Patina, that has just been waxed, no Clear Coats for me, if you wanted to do that you can, but it is aging perfectly just the way it is. It has plenty of wear, lots of chips, flaking, scatches, etc. The cab is super solid. The bottoms of the cowl are perfect no rust or bubbles. The only rust bubble I have seen on this truck, is the bottom of the drivers door back corner, very minor. The cab corners are really solid. The passenger side bottom of the cab, has some filler in it, but it is not rusty, it got dented in before, and they tried to fix it, you can see were they drilled a little hole, to pull it out a little bit from underneath. The floors are perfect on the truck, very clean. Inside the door jams, are really, probably the best I have seen on an original truck. The interior paint on this truck, I believe is original, and not repainted. The bed is in very good shape, the tailgate is nice, no rust. The fenders are all steel, they have lots of chips and scratches. They do have some filler in them, and they have lots of patina. From the inside of the fenders, there are no signs of any major repairs, just because they are single walled, they usually get beat up, and people try to get them as good as they can. The fenders are really solid though. The hood is in really nice shape on this truck, again no rust. The front window crank, still works, and the window goes out nice and easy for venting. Also the upper cowl vent works great as well, opens and closes with ease. The grill is original, and in decent shape. The chrome on the truck is in good condition for original, but has patina as well. The spot lights were put on the truck I believe when new, it was used as a Service truck, the are both GM Spot Lights, and they both work!!!!. Overall, you can get a pretty good idea of what the truck is. It has a nice stance, and looks awesome driving down the road. The engine is a 216 Stovebolt. It runs very good, super clean inside. I went ahead, and detailed the engine compartment, removed everything off of the engine, except the oil pan. It has a new side cover gasket, and valve cover gasket as well, exhaust and intake manifold gaskets, Carb spacer, exhaust donut etc. The engine under the valve cover, is super clean, absolutely no reason for a rebuild. Not trying to make it look like the engine was just rebuilt or anything I love to detail engine compartments, and ol' Clarence needed a nice freshen up under the hood. Mechanically it runs like a sewing machine, starts right up, choke works good, throttle pull and floor kick start all work great. The gauges are working, oil pressure, temp, fuel, and amp work. Still running it original 6V system. The odometer and speedometer are not working currently. All the dash lights work, and exterior lights work on the truck, including the Lic. plate light, and brake lights. The factory GM spot lights are working as well. The truck does not burn any oil, and does not blow any smoke. The transmission, seams in good shape, it shifts nicely, threw all the gears. It is a 3spd manual. The clutch I was told was replaced a few years ago, and it feels really good, no chatter, very nice and smooth. The brakes are in really nice shape, probably one of the best stopping old trucks I have had, it does not pull, stops nice and straight. It still is running it original factory shocks as well. About the only thing I would do, is run the tail pipe out the rear of the truck, it just stops at the muffler. Overall, this truck is a hoot to drive. I had new set of Cokers, that I had for another car of mine a few years ago that I never used, they only have about 50 miles on them, and still have the nubs on them. I was waiting to put them on something cool, and this truck was perfect. They are Coker Classic 4" Wide Whites Radials, so it has a really nice ride. The windshield wipers want to work, but they need to be taken apart, you can hear a little vacuum out of the drivers side, they need to be looked at in the near future. Interior is in nice shape. Seat is worn, but in very good shape for its age. The inside of the cab is really clean, no rust, inside the jams is nice, I have had the seat out and it is super clean for a rig of this vintage. The GM fan on the steering column does work, it is probably one of the coolest things in the interior to me, when I first saw it, I was in love, especially when I saw GM on it. I am a fan guy, used to collect them, I know I am weird. The Deluxe heater works as well under the dash. Overall, a very clean interior for the age, original headliner needs to be replaced, but to me it looks good because it is original. The glass, could use some help on the front windshield, it as a crack in it, and delamination around the edges. Windows roll up and down nicely. Could use new gaskets, but it does stay nice and dry inside, no issues with any major leaking or anything. It is very comfortable to ride in, NON SMOKER, just nice and clean. The old original bed was in the truck when I got it, it had aged, it was solid for the most part, but I really wanted to put a nice oak bed in it, so I gave it a try, not to bad looking for beginner. I used the original rails, they were in decent shape, used Polished stainless bolts, turned out very nice in my opinion. I have been driving the truck around, and having a good time with it. But it is time to let him go, I have a few other trucks I am working on right now, and need some more room. Clarence will out a smile on your face.
