Vehicle Detail
Thank you for visiting another House of Hotrod Auction. We have listed today a 1969 Camaro SS factory 4-speed car with a ZZ454 crate engine installed. This belongs to a friend of mine since high school (I won't say how many years but it's a bunch) We grew up around these cars and when he wanted to find one I helped him find and purchase this one. I will do my best to describe it so that you feel you know it.. It's hard to show the total story of this car in the words I use, but I have added as many pictures as possible - I tried to use pictures that covered the overall feel and look of the car. These pictures were mostly all taken at Evergreen Air Museum - and many in front of a Douglas C-47 Skytrain that was part of the Normandy invasion in 1944. You will also note the Spruce Goose, a Saturn rocket and other planes in the background. Evergreen is gracious in letting us use their planes and facility as a backdrop for these pictures. If you're ever in the McMinnville are please stop and see them - they have not only the air museum but an aerospace museum and an indoor water park! I use lower resolution so that anyone in the world can download them with relative ease. Please be aware that this car is advertised and for sale locally, nationally and globally, and we do reserve the right to end this auction at any time if the vehicle sells before auction ends. This very collectible and very driveable Camaro is definitely for sale and definitely on the money price wise. If you are SERIOUS about the car - please call my cell # 503.580.6225 if I don't answer the first time - try again later - if I am at work I may not be able to answer your call. Please be considerate of the time. This is an amazing car - one you can drive, enjoy, preserve and show with pride. Buy it today and be the envy of those who hesititated and missed. Classic Camaro's are some of the most beautiful cars GM ever produced and the '69's in my opinion are the finest of the breed, especially of the first generation cars. They are the iconic Camaro - and this car is simply an awesome representation of the genre. The owner and I had a really good friend who had a gorgeous '69 Z/28 in the mid 70's and that car impacted us both. He currently owns a '69 Z with a crossram, I owned a '67 SS396 for years and this friend decided he wanted one about 2000. We both searched for a car and in 2001 we found and purchased this one for him. At that time the car had a 396 in it, that was non original to the car, but we knew that at the time. We believe it to be a real SS car and a factory 4 speed (no 396 cars bore the X11 stamp on the cowl tag) and because of that we look at it as a 'recreation' more than a clone. This isn't some 6 cylinder car gussied up - it's a cool car in it's own right, with a bigger engine installed. When the big block was installed, the heater core and housing was changed to a big block one - we've most all seen ones not done correctly, and the heater hoses are too close to the right cylinder head - not so on this car. The car is a very late production 1969 car - produced in September of 1969 when most other manufacturers were producing 1970's - Chevrolet was still making '69's as the '70's just weren't ready for prime time yet. I think that's a good thing. The only plant producing them at that time was Norwood, as the LOS (Los Angeles) plant had ceased '69 Camaro production to tool up and the production really shifted to Ohio until the new car had the kinks worked our. Originally born in Frost Green with black standard buckets and a black vinyl top with a few cool options - we think it had spoilers, has AM/FM stereo, PS, PDB, guages, tach and console with Style Trim Group outside. We aren't sure when it got the big block and or cowl hood, but it really doesn't so much matter - we just won't make something up! Let's go through the car from front to back: In 2009 The L78 that resided in the car was replaced with a GM crate 454 - the 440HP ZZ454. It's fed by a Holley 780 CFM double pump / double feed that was just recently rebuilt. Ignition is handled by an MSD Blaster 2 distributor and coil. Fuel pump is high volume, the fuel tank, cap and sending unit are all new from Year One. The exhaust is handled through Sanderson ceramic coated headers, through a Flowmaster American Thunder exhaust system with stainless steel tips. The exhaust note is awesome, not harsh - but definitely authoritative - it sounds great! The radiator is HD and aluminum, and the heater core is new too, the fan an 18 inch 7 blade unit. Starter is new and high torque. Transmission is a Hurst Shifted 4-speed Muncie M21 wide ratio unit and the clutch setup is new and by Centerforce. There is a steel scattershield/ bellhousing assembly for safety with all the horsepower and torque going on. Out back is a 12 bolt posi differential by Richmond Gears with a 3:55 ratio. Most all of the major work was done in 2009 but the new stuff is pretty recent. We had talked about selling the car earlier but he wanted to make sure the car was right before selling it - the owner is very particular and fussy (sorry) and the car was just not going to someone else without everything sorted. The car drives great, has absolutely gobs of power and has been dyno tuned several times. Suspension is pretty stock, nothing really high zoot - but there are KYB front and rear shocks, and an Addco front sway bar upgrade. Idler arm and pitman arm are new - as are brakes and bearings and such. Power disc brakes up front and drum rear, power steering is stock. Rolling stock is new and is BF Goodrich Radial T/A's in P23560R15 on 15X7 Rallys. This is a super turn key car that can drive anywhere. Really - the owner will hop in it on a weekend and (given good weather) drive anywhere he'd like without batting an eye. 100-200-300 mile weekend jaunts aren't out of place here at all. I don't think you will find a more driveable, more sorted out or more dependable First Gen Camaro on the market today at any price - and that's a big big statement! There has been nearly 60k spent on this car, and it shows and drives like it. Receipts are on hand for all of the work done since 2001. Inside, the car is pretty much all stock '69 Camaro and amazingly much of it original. As nice of an interior I have seen save for some complete repro ones - but as far as OE goes, this is as good as it gets. It reflects the low mileage on the car. This car had 78K on it when purchased, so it's by no means a garage queen, and it's not trailered ever, it's done about 20k miles in 13 years. Everything - yes everything works inside from the heater to the dome light to the factory AM/FM Stereo. (OK - the horn sounds wimpy, but that's being pretty picky) Guages, speedo, odo and tach all work. Doors lock with keys and it's just simple, clean and functional. Tinted glass all around and none of it is broken or cracked. This is a very clean and tidy non smoker's car. The custom fit California Car Covers cover comes with the car, and if the car is sold outside of Oregon, the plates stay here, not with the car. Outside the car is black, no vinyl top. It's not been painted on at all since the owner got it, and it wasn't new when he did - so - any and all flaws are visible and present. There aren't many, but I will 'pick it apart'! The car is pretty darned straight with spoilers front and rear. The stripe color against the black gives the car a really great and unique look. The cowl hood is steel. Front spoiler has the brackets which most don't. There are a couple spots next to the seams that are on the panel between the trunk and rear window that have a little popping back, but that's really the only place we see this on the car. There are no rust bubbles anywhere, like one usually sees, especially in the 1/4's, which leads me to believe, along with that mentioned popping in small spots that the 1/4 panels have been replaced at some time. This is very common - if they had not there would probably be rust around the rear wheel openings, which there is not, and no sign of. The left hand may not have been, it looks more original and a squeak more 'wavy' than the right. If you look at the closeup of the cowl hood, there is a minor 'outtie' bump that a PDR guy could easily fix, but wanted you to see it. Overall though, the car is very straight, and please understand that we are being REALLY picky for you. The chrome is bright, with no pitting evident, the trim super nice and plastics nice too. This car will win awards at outdoor shows and presents well - though it won't probably win best paint at an indoor show - it's going to get thumbs up galore and start many many conversations that's for sure. There is no sign of rust or rot anywhere underneath, floor pans, trunk, rockers, doors anything - it's a very solid and dry car - as I said earlier indoor kept and covered when not being driven. We have no salt on the roads here in the NW interior - just at the beach, we are inland so never salt worries - and we have some of the nicest sheet metal and interiors you will find on the planet, period. The car hasn't been fluffed, buffed, detailed, rattle canned or anything - it's just as it's kept by the owner - in fact, it drove here 60 miles for the pictures, and it wasn't wiped down or anything. It's absolutely as honest a Camaro as you will find anywhere, period. We give the best description we possibly can and invite you to drive or fly in to see it in person. Nothing hidden whatsoever. It's an amazing value - and as good as money in the bank, if not better.
