Vehicle Detail
Beautiful, completely stock, rust free, well maintained, good running and driving, fully optioned, desert Southwest (AZ, Southern CA, Southern UT), one family owned 1976 International-Harvester Scout II with the desirable Deluxe Trim Package and a hardtop that has never been removed. It was bought new in Phoenix and spent almost 20 years there before the owner moved to Santa Clarita, CA and gave it to his son. About 10 years ago the son moved to the dry, desert community of St. George, UT (a little over 100 miles north of Las Vegas) and drove it regularly until 2011. Vehicle Capacity Plate confirms it was built on September 3, 1975 in Fort Wayne, Indiana for the 1976 Model Year. VIN decoding is at the bottom of my description if you are interested. The exterior is in excellent, unmodified condition. Body is completely rust free everywhere (undercarriage pictures available). It was resprayed many years ago over the original blue body/white removable hardtop paint configuration. Over time it has developed some oxidation and orange peel. Paint is the only deviation from original on the entire exterior. It had a fender-bender long ago on the left front as you can see in the pictures. Doors and tailgate open and close solidly. Windows roll up and down properly. All glass is good other than two small rock chips on the flat windshield. Removable top windows have old tint still on them. High and low beams, 3 of 4 blinkers, 3 of 4 side lamps and brake lights all work. The interior is very well-preserved. It is all original other than an older high-quality reupholstery job on the seats, a vintage cassette deck and door speakers. Dash is uncut and unbutchered with all buttons, knobs and switches in place. All carpet, headliner, dash and trim pieces are original. Nothing is missing. The desert sun/heat has cracked the dash and made the plastic shift console brittle over the years (see pics). Gauges, dash lights, flashers, AC fan and cigarette lighter all work. Speedometer (odometer works properly), horn and heater fan do not. Since this is a top-of-the-line Scout II with the Deluxe Trim Package it has an automatic transmission, air conditioning, power steering and power brakes. The running gear is rock solid. It has the high nickel content (excellent for longevity) 304cid Comanche V8 with dual turbo muffler exhaust system, electronic ignition, newer battery and newer alternator. It is hooked to a three speed automatic transmission, Dana 20 transfer case and Dana 44 axles front and rear with front disc brakes. The original engine and transmission were both rebuilt many years ago. It starts, idles, accelerates, steers and brakes properly. Tires have a lot of tread but are old and starting to crack. Four wheel drive system works great. After 38 years in a dry climate it rattles a bit when driven. Parking brake works great but dash light stays on when released. This is a beautifully patina'd, barn find, time warp, survivor kind of vehicle. It should be preserved and enjoyed as is or restored to a higher level. If you want to modify a Scout II, please buy one that is no longer stock. There are just too few left in this kind of rust free, original condition. Especially with such desirable options. I hope it ends up with someone who will preserve it or restore it. Just my two cents. My name is Chris and I am happy to answer your questions. Please call me at 435-669-1470. I also have 178 pictures available that show every nook and cranny in great detail. Send me your email address and I'll get them to you. This awesome 1976 International-Harvester Scout II is located in the dry, desert community of St. George, Utah (a little over 100 miles north of Las Vegas). Thank you very much for your interest.
