Vehicle Detail
The Short Version This is a 1988 Mazda MX6 GT that runs and drives, but it needs lots of help. It has a turbocharger, intercooler and a 5 speed. It also has a power sunroof and power windows. It has lots of newer parts and needs more. The engine makes a ticking noise. It sounds like a valve or something so to be safe I will say it needs to be rebuilt. It has some minor rust and a couple of dents (one is kinda big). This would be a great car to restore or would make one hell of a parts car. The Long Version I bought this car from my stepson sight unseen. I knew it was a cool car and that he had put a lot of money into it. He told me he was tired of throwing money at it (he is not the mechanical type) and wanted to get rid of it. I told him I wanted it and would pick it up later. It was six months before I had a chance to go get the car. The battery was dead and when I started it there was a rattling sound like a lifter was loose (I know this car does not have lifters, but that is what it sounded like). It went away some as it warmed up. He said it didn't make that sound when he parked it. I changed the oil, but it made no difference. The check engine light was also on. The codes were about the EGR valve. It would rev fine sitting still, but under load it would cut out at about 3000 rpm. I cleaned the EGR and it did not change. I got a used EGR off of a 1990 Ford Probe GT (same engine) and after I installed that the code went away. Now it still bogs at about 3000 rpm, but if you feather the pedal you can get past it. It acts like it is dumping the boost from the turbo. It has many oil leaks. He said it went through a quart or so every oil change. It has the bad shifter bushings so the shifter kind of wobbles around when it is in gear. It shifts fine, but feels crappy. I did notice it popped out of 5th gear a few times when I drove it home. He said it had never done that before. Parts that have been replaced in the last 20,000 miles.Front Brake Rotors, Pads and CalipersStarterClutch, Pressure Plate, etc.AlternatorRear Brake Pads and RotorsThe interior is in good condition. The fabric is faded in the back window and there are a couple of cigarette burns. There is no stereo. The heater/ac blows, but I have no idea if it works beyond that. The car will need to be trailered. Three of the tires are junk and one wheel has been curbed. It still holds air, but is way out of balance. I haven't done much to the car other than clean it out, change the oil and EGR. I am selling this so I can buy parts for my new crappy project....a 1984 Corvette. I have listed the car to start at $300, which is what I can get from Pick N Pull. The title is clean and in my name. The car will need to be picked up within a week of the end of the auction. The following web address goes to a video of the car running and driving. http://youtu.be/GmXusvF-GjY Please see the pictures for more detail on the condition of the car. Please ask if you have any questions. Thank you.
