Vehicle Detail

Here is an exceptionally clean, completely original, fanatically maintained 5-liter/5 speed manual Mustang offered by the family of the original owner. This is a custom factory built-to-order vehicle originally purchased by my father as a Ford Aerospace employee. The original window sticker (included) documents the special-order history. Furthermore, this was purchased as a gift for my mother, who used it as her daily driver for nearly 20 years. This vehicle was driven exclusively by my mother, who drove it as you would expect a conservative grandmother would. The car has been in California for its entire life, and has never been in snow or seen road salt. The vehicle has NOT been detailed, just washed and the interior vacuumed. This was ordered with ALL the premium options: limited-slip (Trac-Lock) differential, fully adjustable sport seats, premium sound system, power windows, power remote control mirrors, etc. Un-modified, completely original Fox-series 5.0L Mustangs are very difficult to find, most having been butchered by "home mechanics" and abused by younger 2nd or 3rd owners. I don't believe this vehicle has ever been driven by anyone less than 55 years old. Mechanically and cosmetically, the vehicle is in very good condition, with 100% original paint, original unpitted/unchipped windshield, and original aluminum wheels free of any curb rash. The engine starts instantantly hot or cold, does not burn or leak any oil, and has been run on synthetic oil (Mobil-1) for almost all of its life. With 10W-30 Mobil-1, cold oil pressure is ~55 PSI at idle, with an almost unnoticable drop to ~50 PSI at hot idle. The synchronizer function on all gears is extremely strong and positive. The vehicle passed the California smog test within the past 60 days. This is a the potent 5.0 liter V8 engine, with multi-port fuel injection, roller cam, factory tube headers and limited-slip (Trac-Lock) differential. There has been no body work at any time, there are no obvious dents, dings, or scratches, and the original red pinstriping is in near perfect condition. The paint has never been machine buffed, only hand washed. Recent service work includes a new OEM LUK clutch, with new OEM Ford rear crankshaft oil seal, new pilot bushing, new throwout bearing, and an expensive ($200+) OEM Ford clutch cable. Also installed were a new premium Autolight alternator, a new 100 month warranty battery, new Champion spark plugs, new premium Gates serpentine belt, and new OEM thermostat and water temperature sender. Even the gray silicone ignition wiring is original. Mufflers, tail-pipes and headlights have been replaced with original Ford components. The interior is also in extremely clean condition, with the exception of the carpet and exposed plastic panels in the rear hatch area. There are no tears, cuts, or visible wear on any part of the seating surfaces or headliner; the dash is unmarked. Everything works: electric mirrors, radio, electric window lifts, remote trunk and gas filler latches, etc. except the air conditioning. The air conditioning is the original R12 system, and has not been converted to use the poorer-performing but cheaper R134A refrigerant. If we don’t get the AC working by the time the vehicle is sold, I'll include 3 cans of genuine (old stock) R12 refrigerant with the vehicle. Included is an extensive documentation package, with a full dealer service history from day one, showing fanatical attention to preventive maintenance. Also included is every piece of paperwork associated with the vehicle since the day it was ordered: original sales brochure, sales contract and ordering documents, window sticker, maintenance schedule, Extended Service Plan documents, etc. Also included are extremely rare items like the hang tag from the ignition switch showing the special instructions for starting an engine with electronic fuel injection, and a hang tag for the shift lever providing special instructions for shifting into reverse. The original jack, tire iron and wheel-lock key are included; the jack appears to have never been used. The passenger side valve cover gasket was recently replaced because of a minor oil leak, and the engine top end is absolutely pristine, zero sludge or varnish anywhere. Now, for the disclaimers. The visors have been modified by the addition of grandmother-made hand-sewn red denim covers, presumably because of some deterioration of the original vinyl. The small sheet-metal change cup is missing from the center console, and the carpeting in the rear hatch area is worn from years of carrying boxes of books. There is a small patch of "sunburned" area on the vinyl at the top/shoulder area on the passenger seat. Both seatbelt retractors retract somewhat slowly, and the power windows squeak when raised or lowered The black finish on the door window frames are badly faded and show superficial discoloration, and the black finish on the anodized aluminum trim is fading. The front edge of the hood shows multiple small rock chips. The soft vinyl covers over the ends of the seat belts, where they attach to the floor, are deteriorating. The Goodyear Eagle tires are at least 15 years old, and while they have usable tread, they seem very hard and offer marginal traction in the wet. The fiberglass sound-absorbing pad under the hood is damaged at the front edge, where it looks like the engine shed the serpentine belt at some point. Some of the external rubber weatherstripping around the windows is deteriorating. There was one very small spot of bubbled paint near the center of the rear window, this was ground out and primed to prevent any further deterioration. Please ask if you have any specific questions or want additional photos. Car is currently located in Southern California, Orange County area. Payment must be made via cash or certified check. Check must clear ALL bank processing before vehicle will be transferred. The vehicle is offered "as-is", with no warranty of any kind.
