Vehicle Detail
1955 B M W R50 In O R I G I N A L Condition The History: This bike left Germany on February 22nd, 1956 and arrived in New York City on February 23rd, 1956. It was then imported to Canada by its German owner, a friend of my father. This is the first BMW to have the Earle's Fork. Found this on the internet...Pretty Cool Original Brochure!! bmwdean.com/1955-r50-brochure.htm From Wikepedia Germany (I think you can translate the page): de.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_R_50 The Facts: This bike was LOVED by my dad's friend, Karl. (He added the 'D' on the rear fender. D for Deutschland. It's been on there almost 60 years). It was extremely well cared for and ridden regularly. All routine maintenance & repairs (new battery, muffler, etc...) were performed to the 'T'. To my father's knowledge, there were never any problems with this bike. He knew the owner since 1974. My father also owns 2 BMW motorcycles (currently, 2 x R80RT's, although he's owned others before these), so, he knows what he's talking about! The paint on the bike still shines! Even the pin-striping is intact (see photos). The seat (original) has no rips or tears (see photos). Some TLC and it'd be quite the sight to behold. The battery is currently not in the bike, as you can see from the photos. (There is a battery...it may need to be replaced at some point, although it started her up the last time it was installed. Inclusion of the battery is up to you.) The bike comes with the original tire pump (see photos of bike), tire repair kit (see photos), original tool kit & roll-up bag (see photos - 1 tool can not be found. Included is a photo from the German manual of the repair kit for comparison to what we have), owner's manual in both English & German (see photos), Repair Manual for the R50 (see photos), & the ignition key & spare ignition key (originals) (The key for tank storage is currently MIA. Hopefully it turns up. However, I've been told that it's likely that all keys prior to /2 models will fit. That being said, a replacement key(s) can be ordered). My father inherited this bike in 1992. Since then, it was never 'officially' on the road, although it was driven, from time to time, and started up regularly. It was ALWAYS stored in a heated garage and covered. Seriously...it's been BABIED. Please look at the photos provided closely. This is a dream bike. A little piece of history. The Fine Print: That being said, all sales are final and no warranty is given. You are bidding on an almost 60 year old bike that is a CLASSIC and it is up to you to look at the photos and decide!! The reserve on this bike is set at $9,500. It's worth well over this..and we'll leave that to be determined by this auction. If you have ANY questions, please ask. I will then forward them to my father to respond to. My German father has had bikes since the 1950's. He knows what he's talking about. In fact, he did his motorcycle driver's license on this exact year & model bike in Dortmund, Germany in 1956!!! Serious buyers will be provided a telephone number, if necessary, so you can talk with him. BMW's are in his blood!! It will be the buyer's responsibility to set up all things relating to the transport of this bike, which includes, but is not limited to: crating; transport; freight; duties (if applicable); etc. A deposit, via PayPal, of $500 is required withing 48 hrs of the close of this auction. The balance is due within 7 business days. We will hold the bike up to a total of 30 days (so you can set up transport, etc). The bike is currently at my home in Chateauguay, just off the island of Montreal, in Quebec, Canada. Any errors or omissions are not intentional. We have created this auction to the best of our knowledge and ability. Thanks! (I have a feedback rating of 100% positive with 1636 feedback on my 'buying' profile - GOODYORKIE. I set up this account solely for when I have things to sell.) Engine #555868 (See photo) Frame #555868 (See photos) Frame Plate #555868 (See photos) BMW. Sheer riding pleasure. BMW.
