Vehicle Detail
1969 Cadillac DeVille convertible - "BARN FIND" - I bought this from an Estate as a non runner and had to make some mechanical repairs to get it running. It now starts right up, runs and drives. I would say the overall condition is a #3 as it has been reconditioned at some stage of its life. It obviously has been sitting in storage for a long time before I bought it. The body is OK and looks nice from 4' away, but once you get close you can see badly touched up scratches (a lot of them) and evidence of old body work. There are a few bubbling spots in the door corners, truck lid and body seams at low level. The underside of the car looks good which is probably due to evidence of undercoating and appears to have had new metal installed in the trunk bottom. Interior is not bad at all for how old the car is. Front seat leather is in good shape with minimal wear. Rear seats show a bit more wear, but no holes or big rips or anything like that. The dash is in very good shape. Convertible top is power and works well. The white top itself is in good shape, but not perfect. All glass and stainless steel is in good shape. Pretty much everything on this car is in good shape for its age, but not perfect. Tires are in very good condition, but may need balancing as there is a slight pulse in the steering wheel at high speed. There are still a handful of small repair projects to be taken care of such as the radio, courtesy lights, heater fan and some other misc items that are not currently working. All lights and wipers work. Exhaust is OK, but there are some patches within the system and there is a ticking sound when the car runs which sounds like an exhaust leak (a new manifold Y-Pipe comes with the car). Transmission shifts into all gears nicely. Power steering and power brakes (appear to be new) work well. There are some new air shocks that also come with the car. There are also new steering sway bar bushings that come with the car as one has failed on the front. I have never given the car complete tune up so there may be other small jobs needed as it gets more miles put on it. I have only driven this around the block to make sure the transmission worked so I would not recommend driving it any great distance right away. It has sat for a long time so trust will need to be built up I think. Please let me know if you have any questions. I unfortunately do not know the complete history of the car as I just got it myself and no documentation came along with it. PLEASE NOTE that the car is for sale locally so it may sell before the auction ends. Thank you for looking. Updated information - I have had quite a bit of interest in the DeVille with lots of questions and a few who stopped in. Most popular answers/issues as follows: I am not a used car dealer. I pick up cars sometimes at estate auctions, have simple things repaired, then move them along with the hopes of making a few dollars. I do not know the extent of the restoration done in the cars past and am not a body man so cannot tell you more than what is in the ad above. The wear and tear on the car is what you would expect for a 40+ year old car, this is why I chose the #3 condition from the description on the Hagerty website. I have taken lots and lots of pictures of everything up close. Just let me know your email and I can send them. I only put a few miles on this car to make sure it moves, steers and stops and it does. It could use the repairs mentioned above before jumping on the highway I think. One of the gentlemen that came to look at the car said, in his opinion, that the ticking sound is probably a combination of the exhaust leak and possibly a lifter. He said if the car sat a long time they may be "hanging up". I do not know if this is the case, just wanted to pass it along. I more than welcome anyone who would like to see the car for yourself as it is hard to explain my perception of its condition as I do not work with this old of a car in general. No, I will not offer a warranty or guarantee of any kind. The car is sold as is. I am sure you understand. The interior does have small trim pieces missing and the door trim is cracked in multiple places. Thanks!
