FEATURED DEALER American Classic Car Sales 1683 Cattlemen Rd Sarasota, FL 34232 (941) 928-2339 FEATURED VEHICLE 1963 AC Cobra Aluminum Body VEHICLE DETAILS Year: 1963 Make: AC Model: Cobra Trim: Aluminum Body Engine: 260 Transmission: Manual 4-Speed Fuel Type: Gasoline Exterior: Red Interior: Black Mileage: 206 Vin: AEX198 Stock#: C Body Style: Classic Car - Custom Car Condition: Used VEHICLE INFO This true Aluminum Body 1956 AC Ace Roadster was modified to racing Cobra MK1 specifications in 1963. Modifications were nearly exactly as the CSX Series cars. Among other less significant modifications, these included a real aluminum Shelby nose (the original Ace nose comes with the car), a 1963 Ford V8 260 cubic inch special high performance engine, front disc brakes, Jag rear axle and side mount exhaust. It is obvious by inspecting the underside of the car that the modifications were made in the early 60's using early 60's parts including actual true Shelby Cobra Alloy Wheels. We have reached out to the Cobra Museum for information regarding Shelby's involvement in the modifications of this car and we are still researching the possibilities. Please call to discuss weather or not we have made any clear connection. For the time being, we will assume that the parts were purchased from Shelby and may or may not have been installed by the Shelby organization. Regardless, we have a car that resembles what Shelby was doing with the Aces that eventually became the CSX series. The AC in the early 60's using the AC aluminum body and tubular chassis were renamed Cobras as they came out of Shelby's shop. Like this car, Shelby was installing flares, wheels, tires, engines and Jag rear axles. This car has been owned by a local entrepreneur who bought this car a few years back and made current day modifications in order to be able to be inspected and approved by the vintage racing organizations. It has Raced in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania and in Florida at various tracks. That is why the "Rookie" sticker is on the car. This is something that new drivers must have posted on their cars to inform the other racers that there is a new driver on the track. The tires were specially made to fit the car and resemble the original Cobra racing configuration and are like new with nubbies still visible. The car's engine has been overhauled and the suspension, brakes, chassis, etc. were completely refurbished. The car currently has a racing seat and belts in it. We have the original total black interior that is pictured herein that may be re-installed in the car should you choose to use the car for road use with an additional passenger. Here is a chance to own a very interesting piece of history in the aluminum Cobra family for a fraction of the price that a CSX series car. The car is in excellent condition and is fully functional.
