Vehicle Detail
For sale is my 1970 L34 SS 396 El Camino. First and for most, the car has rust in the frame and may require replacing it if u plan a full restoration. I do drive the car daily and it is sound and reliable. I have recently replaced the rearend bushings. Starting with the drive train, the original 396 was replaced many years ago with a 1969 396 that runs strong with no noises or smoke. Although the engine was replaced, it still retains many of its original equiptment and parts under the hood. I believe the intake to be original but the carb is from a different year. The carb works great, smooth and responsive. The Choke works proper with one pump to set it. The altenater bracket is wrong but i do have the correct one for it. The distributor is original to the car and correct for the 4 speed transmission. It has the original exhaust manifolds with no cracks, and a solid dual exhaust. The transmission is the correct M20 wide ratio trans for the car. The car still has the factory tabs on the underneath of the car that hold the speedo cable in place although one is missing part. (see photos). The rearend is the original 12 and is a posi with a 331 gear ratio. I recently put another power steering pump on the car, its the correct pump but the wrong pully, i have the original one and will give it with the car. The bell housing is the correct high performance one for the car. It has power disc front brakes and work good and stop the car fine. The radiator is not correct but is a three core and cools the car great. Never runs hot. The shifter is not correct but the one that is in it looks period correct and shift smooth and tight. The shift ball is also not correct. With that being said, the drivetrain is very solid and dependable with the exception of the frame rust. Now for the interior. It still has all its original interior, the seats are decent with a couple small splits in the seams. The door panels are original and in great shape. The carpet is original and in good shape also. The headliner is there and has a few mice chew holes in it. sun visors are there. The dash is PERFECT with no cracks in the dash face or in the pad. All the glass is good in the car. Over all, the interior in pretty decent condition for the year of the car. As for the body, It has rust in all the usual places that a car like this would have that has not spent its life in warm climate. The floors have a few rust spots by the toeboards and in the well behind the seats. The bed has some around the wheel wells and toward the back. The car has a vinyl top and has rust bubbling under it that will need attention. The front bumper is painted silver but is straight and would be very good for a rechrome. The rear bumper is straight and has decent chrome on it. All the lights work fine on the car. All the trim is on the car. Someone at one time has painted the box trim and added snaps for a cover, i have some different pieces to replace some of it and will give it with the car. The tailgate works great and has a small runs spot on the very bottom. The quarter have been repaired at one time and will need redone. The doors have rust along the bottom as do the front fenders. The SS hood is good, someone has added the hood pins. The headlight bezels and the grill are in great shape. To help with some of the rust issues, i will throw in at no extra cost, new front fenders and new doors, and a new tailgate. That will take care of the majority of the body rust. The rims are the correct matching set of AO rims with four ring in good condition and three of the center caps. This car is as close as u can find to a surviver car. It was driven most of its life with no major modification and performance upgrades like most people did to these cars. Its still very dependable and in my opinion can be driven anywhere with no worries of major failure. The car is located in michigan (48723) and can be driven anywhere. Like i said, its my daily driver and still gets plenty of attention and thumbs up. It still has plenty of potential for restoration in the right hands and would fetch a high price in any market. PLEASE ask any and all questions, i feel and educated buyer is a happy buyer. If u do not plan on paying for the car if u win it, PLEASE DONT BID.
