Vehicle Detail
1966 Porsche 912 1965 Build Date - 3 Gauge Cluster - 5 spd - 15" Original 911 Fuchs NO RESERVE Hey, thanks for stopping by and checking out my 1966 Porsche 912. This is one of the earlier 912 cars built during the 1965 calender year, vin 351808. This is a 3 gauge 912, with the optional 5 spd (225998, 902/1, 901.301.311.01). I have owned a few of these 912's in the past, and they are just a hoot to drive. These cars were also very popular in racing back in the day, even today, you see many in vintage, autocross, and rally events. They are very nimble, to me they are a true sports car right out of the box. The 912 looks wise is basically a 911, which make them very popular as well. With the early 911's spiking in price these days, the 912 is following right along, they will to be untouchable for many in the future. This car, is in very good shape, I consider it a great driver, with older paint that needs a little attention. It currently has a pepped up 1912cc VW Engine in it, yes, I wish it had a 912 in as well, but it doesn't. If down the road you want to get another engine for it, or perhaps you already have one, that would be a good add to this 912. But for now you will still have a 1966 Porsche 912, it has a great little engine in it sounds great, it has been rebuilt, has good power, and is very reliable, that you can actually work on. This will be a great car for someone you just wants to enjoy themselves, who love to go to vintage events, like local cars and coffee etc. Driving this car just brings a smile to my face, it drives great, when people hear the word Porsche, this classic body style which has been good to the brand is what people think of. Please look at all the pictures, read the auction over and over, and you will probably find the answers that you are wondering about. Please feel free to call me, I would love to discuss the car with you. I show pictures in and out of the car, underneath, it is a solid little 912. EXTERIOR: The car looks great out in the sun, it is bright, Polo Red is a nice color on a Porsche, its original color 6602 code. The paint is about 20 years old, and it is showing its age always painted Polo red, no color change. At the time it was probably a pretty nice paint job, but it has patina now. Under lights in a garage or in the shade, you can see how the paint has aged. I took a few close ups in the shade so you can get an idea. It has its share of touched up chips and small scratches. Its what many call micro blisters on the paint, little tiny spots the head of a pen, very small. One day you will want to take it down and have it repainted, but for now, it looks great as a driver, out in the sun, it looks pretty nice, a very good 20' footer. This car is very solid, it is not a rusty car, it does have a few small bubbles starting in 4 areas or so. The drivers door has a few at each corner, see pictures. Below the drivers side windshield at the bottom there are some bubbles on the cowl. Also right below the rear window on the drivers side, at the bottom there are some bubbles as well. The roof gutters, look great very clean. Overall it has a very nice look to it, and is complete. I would consider it a very nice driver, project for someone. The undercarriage of it is in very nice shape, floors are in very good shape, original, very solid. The rockers look good underneath, all the sub framing is very solid with no repairs or issues. The front trunk area is in nice shape, under pan is solid. The only replacement of sheet metal is upfront, under the spare tire, under the nose area, pretty typical. I show pictures of it, the only metal replacement I have seen on it. Overall structurally this car seems to be in very good shape, and solid. All the glass is in good shape, no chips or cracks. The weather stripping looks to be in good shape, it is older, and the car does stay dry inside. I have looked inside the fenders, inner wheel tubs, shock mounts, inside the rockers, all look very clean. INTERIOR: It is in very nice shape. It was redone about 20 years ago, but still looks very nice. The seats front and back are nice, padding is nice. The only wear is on the drivers seat, on the bolster at the bottom on the back, you can see a little white area in one of the pictures, forgot to take a close up picture of it. It could be touched up with some black vinyl die, it is worn through, but no one would really ever see it, unless you pointed it out. The headliner is excellent, no rips or tears, very clean. The rear package tray is nice, also the dash pad is in very good shape. Nice original steering wheel, horn button is not working though. It has the sought after 3 gauge dash, only thing that is not working correctly is the temp gauge, it reads sometimes though. It has an aftermarket radio with speakers upfront. The carpet is very clean, has a tiny bit of age, but it looks very nice for its age. Inside the door jams, it looks very good, no rust, or repairs, very good. It is a 5spd transmission as well, lever in front of the shifter is the heat control. Overall, for a driver this is a nice interior, no smoke smell, this is one that my wife would like to drive, because it is clean. If you never been behind the wheel of a 912 or 911 you are in for a treat, the visibility is excellent, there is nothing like it. DRIVE TRAIN: The engine as I mentioned before is a 1912cc VW Engine. The 912 is long gone, they are similar engines, remember the VW and Porsche were very close together. So not a lot of modifications they look very similar in general, they bolt right up the the Porsche Transmission, only thing added is a removable brace in the rear. If you have a 912 engine you are set, or if you want to get one later you can. As for reliability, it is a lot cheaper to maintain this car, because you don't have to have the engine work done at some Porsche Mechanic for the time being. So here is what the engine is, 1912cc VW, case machined 94mm, counter weighted crank, Rebuilt rods, Scat C25 Cam, Performance Lifters, Heavy Duty Cast Iron Oil pump, 94cc machined heads, 94mm Pistons cylinder kit, new clutch, balanced, new Solex dual carbs and intake manifolds. This work was done about 4 years ago, and now has about 2000 miles on it, barely broken in, about $3500 was spent on the engine top to bottom and installed. The engine does run good, it has not been on the road regularly in the last couple years, due to health issues. It really doesn't need anything right now, but the carbs could use synched a little better, and it probably could use a valve adjustment, though they seem fine. Just normal stuff, when you own a Porsche in general to keep on top of things. It does have a few small oil leaks things probably need to be tightened up a little from sitting the last few years, nothing major, nothing hitting the ground really, just a little seaping in various spots, which I noticed on my lift, nothing alarming. It does fire right up, it does let out a little puff of smoke when it first cold starts. What this car needs though is to just be driven, get the motor worn in, and just enjoy it. The transmission is a Porsche 5spd, I have driven it through all the gears. Here are the numbers on the case, 225998, 902/1, 901.301.311.01. It feels in good shape, the clutch feels good, no chatter, very smooth. Overall mechanically I think this little Porsche is in good shape for a daily driver. The brakes are in good shape, they were replaced a while back, calipers are fairly clean, looked at the brake pads and they are near 90%. Overall it is very fun to drive, feels great out on the road. Odometer reads 57,840, it does work, but assume the miles have rolled since it is a 5 digit odometer. It does have a set of RARE Porsche 911 15" Fuchs on it, part numbers on the back, Heart cut out as well for valve stem, the are in good shape, need restored in general, but clean no curb rash on them. Tires are in very nice shape, have around 90% tread on them. This is a NO RESERVE, starting bid at $19.66, yes NO RESERVE, top bid gets it.
