Today we have listed for sale 1996 Saleen Mustang S281 Convertible / Speedster. This is a low low mileage factory red convertible with the optional Speedster tonneau / rear passenger area cover in very desirable Rio red and with what we believe to be a very rare automatic transmission. It's a one owner non smoker never wrecked car that is turn key and ready to go. This belongs to a friend of mine, who purchased it from the dealership it was traded at to keep for his own - but as happens - a curveball or two came along and he must sell it - and I am listing it for him. He is a dealer, and the bill of sale will be from them, nothing funny here, the title in the name of the original owner is in hand and available.At this time we are not taking any trades on this car, it needs to be sold outright. I will do my best to describe it so that you feel you know it.. It's hard to show the total story of this car in the words I use, but I have added as many pictures as possible - I tried to use pictures that covered the overall feel and look of the car. We also added some pictures that were taken just this last week of the car with the new tires on it, and underneath the car since that was an often asked question. Old cars are pretty cool - but they can be quirky - and without many creature comforts. How about a car that will be a blast to own - super turn key and have all the creature comforts that we have come to enjoy, and deserve - but that is ultra rare and collectible, in it's original paint, never wrecked or hit with super low miles that the Mrs. can drive too, and the whole family will be safe in!! Summer is coming - and what better time to have a factory drop top car that's at a real deal price point. This is a 1996 Saleen GT Speedster Convertible, Saleen production number 96-0269 - one of 234 Convertible produced for the year in E8 Rio Red, which is probably the most desirable color available, and the interior in the equally desirable black. Saleen had Ford Mustangs delivered directly to their assembly plant and converted them to the S281. This car is exactly as it left Saleen's plant with no mods or changes since purchased (other than normal maintainence a spanking new set of tires). It's most likely that the automatic is one of the rarest of the breed - and it's also very likely that you won't see another like this one - especially with low low miles. This car was purchased new from Damerow Ford in Beaverton Oregon which is about 28 miles from where the car is now. It was purchased by an older man (a retired Tri-Met bus driver) and his wife in 1996, and they paid a bit over $42,000 for the car. The gentleman sought out the car in an automatic so that his wife could drive it, thus allowing him to purchase it, and being a part of the ownership and enjoyment. (smart man!) It has had no accidents and only been out of the state of Oregon once on a trip. All of the service work has been done at Damerow Ford. They faithfully maintained it and the service records come with the car. The only 'issue' they ever had was a check engine light had come on once. The man's wife became ill and he kept it for a while after, but since she could no longer be involved with enjoying the car, he decided to trade it in on a new Cadillac CTS, a car that was easier to get her in and out of. The mileage currently reads 13,740, and it's original low miles - as you will see on a CarFax. Being senior adult owned - it has never been modified, hot rodded, changed, molested, or 'kidded' in any way - as so many of these cars have been - in fact the only change we can tell is a brand new (about 40 miles on 'em) set of 245/40-R18 tires all around - you will note in the pics that three tires were OEM and one replaced. They had gotten a screw in one tire, and had to replace it, so the owner has decided that new tires were in order, so that is done, and handled. The car has had no hits, or wrecks and has all of it's original body panels - note the VIN tags on each one that match the VIN to the car. I believe these cars are all pretty loaded, and this car comes with leather seats, a power driver seat, PW, PDL, Tilt, Cruise, Mach 460 sound, Cassete and CD. It has Racecraft suspension all around which isn't something that someone installed after the fact, it's installed by Saleen. This includes Saleen front and rear variable ratio springs, front shocks and bushings, rear shocks, front sway bar and pivot bushings, specific Saleen five spoke wheels, a front and rear high performance wheel alignment and a tuned chassis. The engine is a 220 HP Naturally aspirated stock 4.6 liter SOHC V8 engine, but to improve engine performance Saleen added mufflers and performance exhaust and gave the engine a performance calibration. Add an integral roll bar which is specific to the Saleen, and has a color matched fiberglass boot that covers up the back seat when on, once again an option specific to the Saleen Speedster. You will see this in the pictures. To the Mustang GT Package Saleen added a urethane front fascia, side skirts, rear fascia, and rear wing. A person can contact Saleen at 1-800-888-8945 or 949-597-4900. They can verify the authenticity of this car. You will need the last 6 of the VIN and the Saleen #, they can fax you a copy of the original window sticker and even get you an actual Saleen letter of Authenticity. This is no clone - it's the real deal, they will also give you all the details on exactly how many were produced like it, and such, if a person wanted to have this info. The car is absolutely a non smoker car, and I don't think the rear seats have hardly, if ever, been sat on, in fact - the entire interior is super clean with no flaws that we could find and as new. The car is super clean, and hasn't been fluffed or buffed, rattle canned or phoneyed in any way. It's as close to a factory new car as you will find for a fraction of the new car price. There are a few scuffs and such in the front bumper, mostly all low on front spoiler/fascia - you can see this in the pictures - we felt it best to show them and leave them so you know EXACTLY what the car is. There are no dings, dents or damage anywhere on the car, there also has never been any paint work on the car anywhere that we can tell - it all looks to be original factory paint. Yes, we could have fluffed it and detailed it to death, but that's not what we like as 'car guys' - we rather you see it as it really is. It's an amazingly natural (unrestored, unfluffed) car, and we believe one of the finest, cleanest, most unmolested and best preserved original Saleens on the planet. I supposed we could have shined it up and made it prettier - but you get to see it exactly as it is - nothing hidden, nothing covered, nothing made to look better than it is. Remember that Oregon has one of the best climates for keeping a car nice - we don't have the high heat, nor do we ever use salt on our roads - so we don't have the corrosion problems that so many of the states and areas do. Check out the underneath pictures and you will see this, just a nice clean car. top and bottom. We are also an hour away from the coast, so none of those corrosion issues either.
