Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is 1973 CB450 Honda twin - arguably one of Honda's more noteworthy machines. The double overhead cam was a wakeup call to motorcycle manufacturers. These bikes and engines scream on the vintage racing circuit still today. And what a following they have. Now, I wouldn't recommend racing this one (it's a beautiful stock-looking bike), but you get the idea of how snappy these are just by riding thi one and flicking it through turns. I have ridden many of these 450s and this is the quietest, best running one I have been on. I am selling this for the current owner. His dad passed away and he is moving. He has decided his two vintage bikes are not going with him (he has a beautiful stock 1975 CB750 also for sale). I have maintained this bike for him, AND the previous owner. Both owners were meticulous with maintenance. I have replaced the stock rubber front brake lines with stainless lines and of course brake pads are excellent. The front brake performance is superior to a stock setup. Within the past 5 years, I have been through the bike. New cables, fork seals, regreased steering head bearings, fork boots, battery, carb tuning and rebuilding, and last year new rings. There is not a chip on the paint, chrome is fantastic. The paint is a 1972 color scheme. Beautiful. Inside of tank is clean and the latch looks like new. It even has an NOS key latch from my parts supply. Aside from the looks, this bike's best feature is how good it runs. It has maybe 2000 miles since the new rings. I tuned it after the rebuild and it runs as good as I've seen. Maybe one of the quietest 450s I've heard. I don't want to oversell it because there are scratches here and there on the black parts of the frame, there are a few small dents in the mufflers (mostly underneath), and a area about the size of a quarter on the front fender where it looks like someone got a little polish happy and wore through the chrome plating slightly. I believe there are no dents in the fenders. There is a small split in the seat seam. These are minor issues and when people walk up to this bike they just stare at it, it's so attractive. The rear tire is OK but I would recommend replacing it within the next 500 miles. That's just me. This bike starts cold on choke on the first touch of the button, and settles into a nice idle quickly. Accelleration is responsive and immediate. No lagging, nothing. He rode it often. I currently have it at my place. Bidders are welcome to come and see it (and the 750 if you would like). NO test rides. But I will start it and ride it back and forth for you. I am driving to Mid Ohio July 11 and can deliver it between Baltimore and Columbus, Ohio for a very reasonable fee since I will be going there anyway. This bike is advertised very accurately, so a nonrefundable $250 Paypal deposit will be due within 24 hours of the auction's close, with full payment within 7 days. This is a fantastic price for this bike, in my opinion. I know way more has been spent on it because I have done all the work on it for 7 years. Good luck bidding! On Jun-24-14 at 16:08:47 PDT, seller added the following information: I neglected to mention the bike has the original tool kit in the holder. There is no owners manual. There are no leaks or wet oil spots. AND, if you want to bid and have a ZERO feedback score and/or no other Ebay transactions that's fine, but you MUST contact me before bidding or your bid will be immediately rejected. On Jun-26-14 at 10:34:28 PDT, seller added the following information: The owner stopped by with the title and additional items today. The bike will come with the original manual and the original warranty information booklet. Also, 3 keys and the bike's tool kit. The warranty booklet shows a purchase date of July 19, 1974. The bike's 40th birthday is next month. Additional photos have been added.
