Vehicle Detail

1964 VW BeetleSunroof – 1600cc engine – Converted to 12 Volt D.C. Clear Virginia TitleSold to the highest bidder – NO RESERVE – Your bid is binding.I acquired this Bug in October, 2002 in Denver, CO. Serial #6116612. There are numerous changes (most done by previous owners) to the “stock” Bug and I will attempt to describe those items that I am aware of.Exterior:The right front and left rear fenders and the front lid were replaced by me with good quality aftermarket parts. The fit is very good. The rear bumper (triple dipped chrome) and supporting hardware was replaced in May 2010. The rear bumper guides came with the vehicle in 2002.There are several areas of paint chips, some the size of a quarter or half dollar, some fade/washout areas as seen in some photos. In my opinion, the body/paint is in fair to good condition, minor dings only, no major dents. The tires are in fair condition, the “insert” whitewalls are deteriorating. These are the same tires (including spare) and inserts that came with the car in 2002. Age unknown. The underside is in fair condition. The underside floor pans, from front to rear seat areas have been patched by a previous owner and has not been a problem for me at any time. I see some minor patches of metal missing (2” in diameter?) on driver’s sideNot much rust in general considering the car is 50 years old. The running boards are in fair/good condition. The brakes are in fair condition.Interior:The horn ring is missing (broke off) the half ring below center of the steering wheel. The horn works sometimes, not others! (This is the one item I never resolved. It’s an issue of wiring connectivity. I installed an on/off toggle switch to silence the horn when it wouldn’t shut up!)The gas gauge pointer/needle is broken off. The gauge glass and chrome bezel (parts provided) are not attached. You can still tell the fuel level though. The seat belts were installed by a previous owner and are mismatched in color and style. The interior was redone by a previous owner and looks good, though there is a piece of interior upholstery in the rear window area that may need regluing and the edge seem at the passenger door is not attached all the way. There are NO rear seats in this Bug. There is an upholstered plywood bench over the battery compartment which also serves as a seat. (Been there, done that!) The radio is an aftermarket AM/FM-CD/Cassette player with Radio Shack “Minimus 5” speakers mounted in the rear window area. The driver’s door interior panel is warped in one corner. (See photos.) The windshield wiper motor is still 6 volt. The washer fluid reservoir is new with a 12 VDC pump motor activated by a push button switch. The driver’s side heater cable is broken, 2 replacement cables provided. The passenger vent wing lever is broken, replacement lever provided. The sunroof guides and cables are new, having been replaced in May 2010. The rear roof gasket for the sunroof is missing. The glove box cardboard shell has outlived its useful lifespan and will need to be replaced. There are 2 sets of keys: 1 for ignition, 1 for the left and 1 for the right doors. (The doors have different keys.)Engine / Electrical1600cc, 60 HP – Aug. 1970 through Sept. 1971 as indicated by serial # AE873092 .Engine is in good condition, it starts and runs rough but does run well enough to be loaded for shipping. It WILL need a tune up (new plugs June 2014). The EMPI carburetor is new, not rebuilt (June 2014). The engine leaks are VW Bug “normal”! (I keep a cardboard drip catcher under the engine.) The battery is new (June 2014).The transmission and clutch work OK. There is a slight “slip” sometimes in 1st gear. The clutch was repaired in Sept. 2006 at 98,667 miles. The electrical system was converted to 12 VDC by a previous owner. I replaced the fuse block with the current style (ATO?) push in fuses used in today’s vehicles (see photo) and slightly modified the wiring, giving the cigar lighter/power receptacle its own 20 amp fused circuit. An updated wiring diagram is provided.Misc. / TermsMany spare parts are included with the purchase of this Bug, some new, some used. I’ll also include all the parts and repair receipts, manuals and notes that I have. They’re all yours; shipped to you (free shipping) after your payment clears and you accept the vehicle on your end. The vintage 1964 VA license plates seen in the photos are NOT INCLUDED. They will be removed from the vehicle and retained by the seller.Terms are PayPal non-refundable $500.00 deposit, remainder of balance owed in the form of cashier’s check or money order. Shipping arrangements to be made by the buyer and coordinated with the seller for delivery to the shipping agent. Title remittance to be determined by buyer after payment is cleared. Car will ship after my bank clears payment. No other form of payment (other than cash in person) is acceptable. NO TRADES or swaps considered. Please don't hesitate to contact me for any additional information you may require. Please be patient for the response because I will be traveling during some of this listing period, but should be able to answer your inquiry within 24 hours, most likely sooner. Thanks for looking at our auction.
