Vehicle Detail

1954 M-170. Was a ranch Jeep for past 42 years. Korean-War-era military field ambulance/radio vehicle made by Willys. This particular Jeep was a radio vehicle, not ambulance. Radio switches/gauges and antenna mount present, but radio equipment gone. Drivetrain and axles are stock with minor exceptions. Ignition was converted to 12-volt and generator replaced with Delco alternator with external regulator by previous owner. Also, civilian carb was installed on the stock 134-cube F-head. Carb needs rebuild (accelerator pump plunger deteriorated so stumbles off idle - otherwise runs fine). Transmission is stock T-90 and T-case is factory twin-stick Spicer 18. Axles are stock Dana 25 front, Dana 44 rear with 5.38 gears. Runs good, 4WD works perfectly. Suspension is stock: factory shackle reversal front, military leaf packs, no broken springs. Shocks are cool Gabriel Adjustable units. Has factory antiswaybars front and rear: M-170-only item. Rebuilt factory steering system: Ross cam & lever steering box, bellcrank, drag link cups/springs, new tie-rod ends. Still needs toe setting dialed in but it's pretty close now. Factory 20-gallon sidesaddle fuel tank. Has newer Optima BlueTop battery and new pintle. Also have new factory replacement rear bumper/crossmember (not installed) that comes with it. Body has surface rust but no rot: solid. The '63 CJ windshield frame shown on vehicle in some photos doesn't come with it, but the original military two-piece windshield with all the brackets and handles present does. Glass on driver side cracked. New black vinyl Smittybilt low-back front buckets and Smittybilt fold-and-tumble rear bench. Old-school cool items include single Cibie spot on bumper (works but not currently hooked up), Cutlas locking hubs (work perfectly), 15x8 Kelsey Hayes steel wheels off a '70 or '71 Jeep CJ-5 Renegade I, and roll bar. Brand new 30x9.50R15 tires with less than 5 miles on them. No DMV drama - has clear title that matches the VIN. Last registered in 1984 but was kept current CA non-op registration so no back fees or penalties. Frame has slight bend just aft of front shackles from previous owner. No cracks. Collision center quoted $500 to straighten but Jeep drives, runs, stops straight so I haven't bothered. Reserve reflects this. It's a rare running, driving, mostly stock example of a cool old military Jeep you can drive while you restore. Serious inquiries only. Vehicle is located in Escondido, CA. I will ship or may consider delivering within a few hundred miles for extra cost. Will halt auction for the right offer. Payment via Paypal, bank transfer, or cash. Transaction must be completed 7 days after auction ends.
