Vehicle Detail
A great roadster in outstanding condition. No rust. Looks great and runs strong. This car is the European model, was imported by a US service man. So the instrument cluster is metric. Left hand drive. Rare 4-Speed manual transmission. See additional photos at this website http://www.activewire.net/roadster (the green roadster and any other items pictured are NOT included!!!!) Be sure to click the thumbnails for hi-res pictures. Fully restored in early 1990s which included: Complete dissasembly of car, strip to bare metal, zinc coat, prime, painted in M-B laquer (12 coats in 2 stages). Undercoat complete car. Rechromed bumpers, grill, trim. New top, engine rebuild, etc. Professionally restored by John Grm who was a former MBCA officer and was trained and worked at the Mercedes factory (interior design department) in West Germany and was at one time the chief judge of restorations for MBCA. Softtop is german canvas, not faded or torn, rear window is clear. Auction includes the car, matching hardtop (fully restored, black), original toolset, service records, hoist lift for hardtop, covers for car and hardtop, photos and documentation of the restoration About the only item showing wear is the black carpeting. On May-24-14 at 18:57:04 PDT, seller added the following information: Auction also include some memorabilia (Mercedes brochure; 230SL wall poster; reprint of 1964 Car & Driver road test of the 230SL) and the Mercedes-Benz "Spare Parts List" part # 10-097 this is 496 pages and fully illustrates every assembly of the vehicle (this book sells for over $100 on eBay). These items are pictured on the website linked above. On May-24-14 at 19:13:15 PDT, seller added the following information: Of course this car has the authentic canvas Kangol seat belts and the correct "headlight notches" as from factory, original Becker AM/FM radio, fullsized spare with matching tire, factory jack.On May-29-14 at 23:34:41 PDT, seller added the following information: Several people have asked about the body and engine numbers. I've added photos to the website linked above that show the data plate, engine plate, and the hood marking (it appears to be the numbers 3566). Based on the data plate, it looks like the original body paint color was White. Also I believe the engine plate indicates this is a factory replacement engine. The hood body number matches the data plate, 3566. Lastly, somebody asked about the 2 small holes in the glovebox door. My father in law (rest in peace) told me there had been an emblem of some kind affixed here. I do not know what kind of emblem it was.
