Vehicle Detail
I have up for auction a 1967 International Harvester 1100A pickup in very close to original form. The truck has been well preserved and has no significant rust anywhere. The truck has been used on the same farm for the past 33 years. It has 61,347 original miles. The truck was originally sold at the Ellis and Capp dealership right here in Greeley, CO. on November 2, 1966. It was traded in 2 years later, and the dealership kept it as a shop truck until late 1980. I acquired the truck this past winter from the farmer who has owned it since January, 1981. The story: For over 30 years I’ve been building and/or restoring classic cars, particularly Early Ford Broncos (thus the name “rockstar-stallions”). I’ve sold many here on eBay over the past 12 years and shipped them all over the world, as far away as New Zealand. Last summer, I decided to do a 73 Scout II (if you click on any of the photos below, it will take you to my photobucket page where you can see the Scout finished, among a few other recent restorations in the “your bucket” folder). As the project was nearing completion, I was out driving the Scout on the country roads where I live when I noticed that one of my neighbors down the road had a couple of really nice old IH pick-ups out in his driveway that I’d never noticed before. I stopped to chat, and he opened the barn door where he had 3 more, one of which was this ‘67. Turns out that the other IH pick-ups (1969-1973) he had bought new and they were all nearly mint condition. We exchanged numbers and I told him I might be interested if he ever wanted to sell the ‘67. I got a call from him a couple months later (October 2013) asking if I was still interested. We hammered out a deal, I gave him a deposit and purchased the truck a few weeks later. Over the past 6 months or so, I straightened and block sanded the body and the single wall bed-sides, primed and painted the truck in the original “Highway Yellow” (PPG code 81531), shot in a professional quality bed liner, installed the new “correct” inner-tubes, liners and tires (nearly $1000), tracked down a missing correct hubcap, cleaned it and tuned it (new ignition, plugs etc.). The engine bay and the interior of the cab still have the original paint, which has faded a little over the past 47 years, but still holds a nice shine. This is not a “show-truck” (a ridiculous term, IMO). It is just an original driver that shows some character. There are a few little dings and scratches that show, but the thing I found so exceptional about this truck is the originality. I count 4 items that are not original: the Jeep-style hood latches, the interior door pull handles, dual exhaust, and the new “shorty” flexible radio antenna. Per the previous owner, the heavy duty rear bumper was installed by the dealership when the truck was sold new. Mechanical: It has a 304 c.i. V8 with a 4-speed manual transmission. It runs well and is 100% original, including the OE oil bath air cleaner. Obviously, the battery, alternator, spark plugs, etc. are not the “originals” but they are all OEM spec. It starts every time without issue. The clutch is solid and it shifts smoothly. It has dual exhaust, but is quiet. The brakes and parking brake work well, so I did not go into them at all. It has the heavy duty rear suspension with the overload springs. Exterior: The body, glass, grill, badges, mirrors, etc. are all original. The truck has never been in an accident. There is no rust anywhere on the body. Original weather-stripping is dried out and cracked in some places, but the window rubber is still soft. Head lights, running lights, brake lights, flashers and turn signals function properly. All glass is intact and no windows are cracked, chipped or broken. The bed floor has many dents but is very, very solid (THICK metal) with no rust. The interior of the bed was sandblasted, primed with 2K high build, painted, lightly sanded and then lined. Bed liner consists of 8 quarts of a black urethane resin (2 kits at $150/ea, plus $30 for the gun) and is the harder “LINEX” type, not the cheap rubbery stuff. The original split rims were prepped and painted and new Yokahama 7.00R15, 6 ply, steel belted radial tires (OE size and style) were installed all around (model Y742S snow tires in the rear). They are load range D, so each tire is good for 2040 lbs. Older spare tire on the original split rim is mounted to the interior bed-side on the original factory mount. Interior: The interior is as it came from the factory. At the risk of being redundant, it is all original. The headliner, sun visors, mirrors, seat, door panels, dash and steering wheel are the originals that came from the factory, and remain in remarkable condition, having survived nearly a half century. Even the carpet is original. The floor is solid and has only very light surface rust. No rust inside the cab or in the rear corners either (see photos below). All gauges work properly. All latches and window regulators function correctly. The door locks are all there. PS (passenger side) works fine but the DS needs to be tinkered with. Heater and fan work fine. Original AM radio works, but the speaker has very poor sound and should be replaced. As the truck was used exclusively on the farm, the seat belts were removed many decades ago. I have tan OEM style lap belts on order (eBay item # 390761514916) and should have them installed by Saturday 4/26. Will post updated photos after installation. If you require shipping, I have provided some shipping options in the “Shipping and Payments” tab above. Obviously, the choice is that of the buyer, but I’ll say I’ve had good luck with UShip in the past. The way it works is you request a quote, and many carriers “bid” to compete for your business, so you are guaranteed a competitive rate. Various levels of containment (open/closed) are offered, and the site provides user reviews on each carrier. The reserve is set very low. I would like to see a straight auction, but I had to set a minimum in case I don’t get the audience I’m expecting. Bidding will start at $200. I have a clear title (in my name) in hand. I also have about 1/3 gallon of unmixed paint left that will go with the truck (adding hardener and reducer will yield about a half-gallon of product, enough to paint the whole truck again if ever needed), as well as an extra pair of tail light lenses and front turn signal lenses/frames. Please review my feedback and know that what you see and read hear is exactly what you'll get. Inspections are welcomed and recommended. I'm available by phone to make arrangements and I’m happy to answer questions or provide further details. Feel free to contact Rob at 970.six90.six704 or through eBay messages. RESERVE IS OFF. The truck will sell to the highest bidder!! NOTE: I believe the vast majority of eBayers are honest, sincere folks, but I feel obliged to make the following statements even if it turns a few would-be bidders away. Only bid if you are 100% committed and have FUNDS ON HAND. Obviously, I put a lot of effort into preparing this auction. I don't want to waste that time and money invested. If you are the winning bidder, a $500 deposit is due via PayPal within 24 hours and full payment is due within 7 days. That means, in my hand in 7 days, not "in the mail" in 7 days. If you have no feedback or less than 10, please contact me prior to bidding. This is not a game and I need to make sure you understand that, or I will cancel your bid. It's simply not fair to me or the other serious and experienced participants in this auction. eBay has rules and we all play by them, one of which is that if an item is "not as described", you (the bidder) are protected by eBay 's Buyer Protection Policy and PayPal. So, it works both ways and I'm 100% OK with that. To those who lack the integrity to follow through on their commitments, know this: If you do not follow through, in other words "no show", your deposit will be forfeited, period. Buyer's remorse is not justification for wasting my time, so I'm being as blunt as I can be: work all that out in your mind, with your wife, whatever, BEFORE YOU BID. Respectfully, if you can't play by the rules or honor your commitments, do not bid in my auction. To most of you, this is obvious, but I feel an obligation to give fair warning to the few that may not get it. Again, best of luck!On Apr-28-14 at 19:24:43 PDT, seller added the following information: Seatbelts are installed… and a look under the dash: As I was photographing this, I thought “This is the fifth unoriginal item going into this truck”, but in truth, they look as original as I could imagine. Perfect color match and OEM style latch. They have the cool aviation release, where you just grab the whole latch and lift instead of pressing a small recessed button. Real easy to get in and out of. The previous owner removed the original upholstered door panels and stored them away to protect them. He installed the more utilitarian metal door panels shown in the photos above. These original door panels were part of the “custom” package and they are complete with all the mounting clips. They have a few scuffs on them, but would probably clean up nice with some 409, but I too am a utilitarian, so I left the metal ones on, but these go with it. * * Misc. I tuned the truck this week and it runs well. The old mufflers had some pinholes in them so I installed a new set of glass packs yesterday.
