Heck, even Mazda copied the MGB when developing the Miata, and this 1968 MGB roadster is an awesome opportunity to own the original. With a very nice restoration a few years ago, it represents fun the traditional British way. Bright red paint is always an excellent choice on you vintage European sports car, and with the early chrome bumpers and grille, this B has a fantastic traditional look that's pure sports car. This car wears an older restoration that's holding up quite nicely, offering good, straight bodywork and a nice gloss to the paint. Gaps are awfully good all around, surprising for an MGB which was notorious for haphazard construction, and the paint is better than any factory MG you've ever seen. The deep chin spoiler adds a racy look that's not out of place on the early MBG, although we'll admit that it's not for everyone. Fortunately, it's easy to remove and the important stuff like the rockers and wheel archers are in good order. In addition to the chrome bumpers and grille, there's a luggage rack on the deck lid, the stainless rub strips along the body are bright and shiny, and the windshield frame is very well preserved. Inside, the story continues with fresh seat covers, which are real leather and not the more common textured vinyl that these cars typically wore. The seats are soft and comfortable with correct patterns for a traditional British look, and since it is real leather, you won't have to worry if you accidentally get caught out in the rain. Recent black carpets have been fitted, along with what might be the original door panels. All the factory-issued Smiths instruments are functional and somehow capture the charm of the Old World better than any modern gauges could, and work just fine with the wood steering wheel and matching shift knob. Things like the dash pad and shifter boot are replacement pieces that are in fantastic condition, and there's an AM/FM/cassette stereo in the center stack. Overhead there's a new black convertible top that you can stow from the driver's seat with just one hand for open-air driving on-demand. No surprises in the trunk, either, which offers a full-sized spare tire assembly and the battery, which moves weight aft to improve handling. MG's peppy and torquey 1.8 liter inline-four delivers enjoyable performance thanks to the MGB's light weight, and the 4-speed manual transmission is one of the more direct units this side of the aforementioned Miata. A few minor upgrades make the most of the engine's displacement and it was obviously dressed to be admired, since the valve cover wears the same red as the bodywork. A replacement intake manifold and 4-2-1 header help build horsepower and a newer muffler gives it just the right sound. Underneath, it's just as good with front disc brakes that do a commendable job and you will note that rust problems in the floor have been eliminated with all-new steel panels. Four recent 165-SR14 radials have been fitted to the original wire wheels, filling out the wheel wells perfectly. There just can't be many MGBs that combine affordability with quality as well as this one. A lot of British fun with all the work already done.
