Vehicle Detail
This is a 1960 Willys Forest Service Station Wagon. This Willys was originally issued to the US Forest Service (thus the government tag on the glove box) for duty in Wyoming. If you notice in some of the pictures the Willys is still Forest Service Green and Highway gray as it was when new. It was owned by a civilian in Wyoming for some time and I have some service records from that owner. Somehow it made it to KY where my friend bought it and drove it for several years. I bought it from him. So I know most of its history. I have a clear and clean KY title on this vehicle. This wagon is not being sold for parts and although I have it disassembled, the wagon is complete. I have all parts and I’m the one who disassembled the vehicle and I organized the parts for restoration. I began restoration on the body and have completed the tail end, doors, hatch, tailgate, and drivers sides except for the front cab corner. I do have the piece fabricated for that section. For the Buy It Now price I’ll complete the welds on the floor pan braces and the cab corner before pickup. All sheet metal has been replaced with plug welds or butt welds. I took no short cuts with overlapping panels and weak welds. Even the driver’s floor pan is butt welded in place as it should be. The only rust that needs replaced is the passenger outer wheel well, side panel, and floor section as pictured. I have a NOS side panel to replace the rusted side panel with. These are factory Willys panels as seen in the photos. I’ve already installed the driver’s side panel. There is a dent on the top passenger side corner of the cowl that can be pulled. I have two doors and hatch and hinges that are epoxied and ready to finish and paint. I also have the original doors as well still in original colors. I have two sets of door and window mechanisms as the original doors are still intact. The frame is clean other than surface rust and someone reinforced the front spring mount. No wrecks or breaks. The drivetrain is complete and all original from front to rear. The engine ran when I took it out and still turns easily. The engine is red and that was the original color on engines in Willys Wagons sent to higher elevations. These wagons had slightly higher compression to account for the elevation change and thus the different motor color. For ease of transport I am willing to put the engine back in the vehicle if the buyer wishes. The transmission is fine but did slip out of 3rd gear so it probably needs a new synchronizer. The transfer case is fine. I have the complete exhaust as well. Radiator is good but I would have it pressure checked since it’s out already. Fuel tank is good and at some point someone fabricated a pretty nice skid plate for the gas tank that goes with it. Steering linkage and box are all serviceable. One trailing arm has a bend that I think is repairable. The Willys has all five original wheels and tires and still hold air and are actually road worthy. One tire is worn uneven but could be used as the spare if you choose to keep the original tires on it. The brakes are intact but the master cylinder is junk in my opinion. All glass is with this vehicle but I cracked the driver’s glass removing it. The rest is fine but dirty. I have all trim rings for the windows, all seats with the rears still sporting their original covers under canvas. I even have the interior side panels that were installed from the factory that you can reinstall or use as a template. They are pretty rough but they are complete. The Willys came with factory Jerry cans and holders that I have replaced as pictured. The Willys also has a Ramsey PTO 8000LB winch with factory mount for Willys Wagons and Trucks. This thing is as close to perfect as I’ve seen. It has front and rear output PTO, winch with functional fairlead and still has the original aluminum data and warning tags on it. It still even has the brass greaseable guide that mounts to the bell housing. It was used but definitely not abused. I also have a brand new original style Unity spotlight that is still in the box. I even have an original Willys AM radio to put in it. Basically, this wagon is complete but disassempled. If it came on it, I have it. It has the wrong battery tray and no headliner but does have bows and rough sun visors. Otherwise it’s all original from front to rear. I’m trying to represent this vehicle as honestly as I can. If you need to see something I’ll take a picture of it. If you want to see it in person please feel free and we’ll set it up. I have nothing to hide with this vehicle. It’s a one of a kind wagon. Please ask any and as many questions as you like. I’m an easy going fella and I’m happy to assist in any way. I’m selling the Willys because of my wife’s health. She’s had colon cancer for over six years and may need another surgery this summer so toys sell first. Otherwise, I would complete the restoration. It needs a new home to be bolted back together and driven or complete the restoration. As far as shipping, buyer is responsible for pickup or shipping arrangements and costs. I’ll help load or do what I can to make the transition as easy as possible. I’ll need a $500 nonrefundable deposit within 48 hours of sale simply to ensure that the vehicle is sold and I can get it ready for transport. The rest is due upon pickup. Again, I’ve tried to be as specific as possible but if I missed anything, you want to see additional pictures, or need questions answered then please let me know. I’ll be happy to answer them. Take care and God bless! 4/24/14: I've decided to remove the reserve price. I also noticed in the pictures and wanted to add that the rear view mirror is present but the side mirror is not. It also has a later model CJ grab handle on the dash as seen in the picture. That is not original but obviously goes with the sale. The holes for the originally equipped grab handle are below and I do not have that grab handle. I just want to make sure I'm including everything. Thanks again for your interest.
