Vehicle Detail

Up for bid tonight is my 1948 Oldsmobile 98 Deluxe. It is a beautiful classic. Unfortunately I have to many projects and don't want this one to get left. I purchased this car from a farmer who did not keep it under any kind of covering and I was hoping to at least keep it covered but have not been able to do that. I love this car and really am sad to see this go. This is the last year of the straight 8's, the next model year it is then the Rocket 88's. I have also had the carburetor rebuilt and since then the car runs great! The lines going to the carburetor have also been replaced. The car did have a problem with starting when it was cold but now it fires right up. I also replaced the spark plugs this week. During the time that I have had it, I have had the brakes fixed. When I got it there were no brakes as they had seized from being sitting outside and due to that the car would not roll very well. Actually the car didn't even run when I got it. I have since had a it up and running. It does not like the cold starts but after the first start it starts beautifully. The engine seems to be solid. The seats are ok. Due to the previous owner letting it sit outside some of the edges, like the area's between the door and seat side, had some mold growing on them. I have since cleaned it off but the material has had some damage done to it. A neighbourhood kid shot the back window (can be seen in the photos) and I have not done anything with having the engine block cleaned and painted. I had fully intented on painting this car in the next couple months and having the engine rebuilt but way too many things going on. The transmission is great. After sitting for all those years the transmission shifted fine as if it had not been sitting at all. Everyone tells me that the hydramatic transmissions were an incredible transmission and very reliable. The car seems to be very straight. The body has minor dents etc but the car is an ORIGINAL 1948 so there are bound to be some. In the pictures you can see where the paint is thin and the primer is starting to come through. There is no rust out/through on this car. The floor boards are very solid. I do have the trunk handle (see the picture with the tail pipe in it). This is an excellent candidate for restoration. Plus, I believe, you are getting a very rare car. I have yet to find another one around. I have been searching and no luck yet. The doors are in good shape. The chrome is pretty good and seems to be complete, there is some pitting particularly on the passenger side but it is all there. The only thing that is bad is that someone backed into the grill and dented it and in the process cracked it in 2 places (see photos). The dash on this car is incredible. There are no scratches or anything. It is the closest thing to mint that I have found in a car of this age (not restored). Be sure to look closely at the pictures and ask questions. I will do my best to answer and if needed I can take other pics and email them to you. I have also found a place to replace the back glass ($350). Some of the other glass might need to be replaced as some is foggy but have found the glass kits to replace all the side windows for around ($400). I am listing this car once. If it doesn't sell I guess I was meant to keep it and will work on it and sell another project. I will not disclose the reserve. THE VEHICLE IS SOLD "AS IS" NO WARRANTY EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED. THIS IS A USED VEHICLE. ANY QUESTIONS FEEL FREE TO EMAIL ME. NEW BIDDERS AND BIDDERS WITH TOO MANY NEGATIVES MUST EMAIL ME OR THEIR BIDS WILL BE CANCELLED. SHIPPING IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE BUYER. ALL ARRANGEMENTS MUST BE MADE BY THE BUYER BUT WILL HELP WITH GETTING IT TO THE SHIPPER ETC. THANKS IN ADVANCE. This car has great potential...it runs and drives...brakes work and lights too....carb rebuilt etc....dash doesn't have a scratch on it...solid car...solid floors...very complete... I have owned this car since 2008 and is stored inside in a warehouse...I have clear title in hand ready to be signed over to next owner. Hi just an update. I had marked in the original auction that it was hard to start. This was my first classic car and found out after talking to my mechanic that it is normal due to it being still a 6volt rather than the 12 volt. I have changed the spark plugs and has improved the starting. As well the mechanic stated that it also will take a few to start as I don't run the car regularily as I should. I try and start it a few times a week but I don't drive it around too much. I have also thought that if the auction doesn't go this time I will relist it since this update is rather late in the auction. As well before I forget I do have the trunk handle and it is pictured. It is in the picture with the tail pipe and fender skirts. Thanks again.
