Vehicle Detail

Ultra Rare 1989 Dodge Dakota CONVERTIBLE 4X4 pickup truck. About 2800 total Dakota convertibles were produced between 1989 and 1991. Of those, most were rear wheel drive for sale in Florida and California, and just a handful of 4 wheel drive models were produced. This truck was bought new in Mountain City, Tennessee and has been in my possession in Bluff City, Tennessee for the last ten years. Much more practical than a Jeep Wrangler or Scrambler, this is a true convertible with a full size bed. This one has 173K miles on the clock and runs and drives. I've been wanting to restore it for quite a while, but I have two other restoration projects ahead of it, so I'm selling it so someone can enjoy it more than I currently do. The good - It runs and drives, so you could drive it home if you wanted to, the 4WD works and engages/disengages just fine, the floors are solid, the top was replaced in 2011 and doesn't leak, the power windows work, the heater works, it has a Clarion 45Wx4 AM/FM CD deck, the seat is in pretty good condition and the overdrive transmission was rebuilt about five years ago. The bad - The dash has the characteristic cracks (I have a dash mat on it), the air conditioning doesn't work (compressor), the windshield wipers don't work, the battery cables are rough, the paint is rough, there are some areas of surface rust and bubbling, the brakes are a little weak from sitting around, and it leaks a little of just about everything except transmission and power steering fluid. The V6 was always anemic and if I were going to build it I'd drop a more modern engine in, but that's just me. Anyhow, this is your opportunity to obtain a very rare and desirable drop top truck which you rarely see. I used it frequently in earlier years of ownership to run forest service roads to see the beauty of our Tennessee mountains. I'm sure that's why it was selected new in the first place. Good luck and thanks for checking out my toy! IMPORTANT UPDATE! I got off my lazy butt and it took me about 5 minutes to find the problem with the 4WD. There was a slice in one of the vacuum hoses going to the control actuator for the front axle. I repaired the hose and now the 4WD works like new! I repeat - The 4WD works just fine! I updated the pictures to include a shot of the 4WD light on. Many have inquired as to why the 4WD wasn't working, so this should ease your concern. I also updated the paragraph above to reflect the status change. Also, some are asking just what I mean by my statement of "anemic" on the V6 engine. This is just to point out that the V6 was a rather weak performer even when new, it certainly hasn't gotten any more powerful over time, but the engine runs just fine, starts just fine, and doesn't miss or anything. It runs as well as can be expected for a greasy 173K mile engine that has never been rebuilt. Also, the tires are getting old and have cracks in the tread, probably not a real problem from a safety standpoint (I've driven on much worse), but just thought I'd mention. The truck is stock, no modifications have been made. Finally, it's my policy that I reserve the right to cancel the auction at any time, but if the auction takes a bid I will commit to the sale and auction completion. Let the bidding begin. If there isn't any bid, I may just keep the truck instead of relisting. I'm not giving a rare truck like this away. Now is your opportunity, so if you want the truck then bid. I will not sell the truck to anyone making an offer after the auction ends. Also note that a $1000 deposit is required following the auction. This is mandatory. If the deposit isn't made as required, the transaction is considered null and void and I have the right to relist or refuse the sale. Making the deposit assures me that the winning bidder is committed to the sale. My 100% positive feedback rating is a testament to my integrity and I expect the same level of integrity from buyers. The listing includes an honest assessment of vehicle condition and you should not have any concerns over undisclosed issues. If you have any questions, please ask and I will respond honestly. If you find that the truck is not as described as above when you pick it up, you have the right to a full refund of deposit and can walk away. However, if you have the truck shipped by a third party and do not inspect it personally, then don't ask me to provide any relief for you if you are dissatisfied. I would like for the truck to go to a collector who has a desire to maintain and restore it if possible.
