Vehicle Detail
1962 Ford Econoline - HeAvY DuTy & 1 Vintage Bike - Your Choice NO RESERVE Thank you for viewing "Elvis" the 1962 Ford Econoline Heavy Duty Falcon Van/Truck. Elvis got resurrected out of the dry desert, Las Vegas, NV. He had been a high roller down there since he was new in 1962. His last owner, brought him to Oregon with him about 6 months ago, which explains his excellent clean rust free body with the perfect patina, I hope no one paints him, I like him just the way he looks, ruff and scruffy, (when I say rust free, I am talking about no rust holes, it has nice surface rust, the nice kind). This Econoline, can go a lot of different ways, Restore to original, hot rod, shop truck, etc. These Trucks were built from 1961-67, they were based off the Ford Falcon, and the Ford Falcon Econoline was born, and called the Falcon Van/Truck. Elvis, has been upgraded with a Mustang Inline 6, 200ci engine. The original motor would have been a 144ci engine, the 200 cubes, is much better suited for a rig like this. This is a Dagenham Factory 4spd, on the column, yes it is a 4spd manual 1,2,3,4 and reverse. I have been a fan of these old Falcon Econoline pickups for some time, they are just a hoot to drive, and everyone just waves when they see you out driving it. If they catch you at a light, or in the parking lot, most people ask, "what is that", that is my kind of rig, love the quirky utilitarian rigs. I am not sure how many miles is on Elvis, the engine runs very good, took the valve cover off to look at the rockers, and they are super clean, engine inside on the top end. The wheels are American Racing Torque Thurst D's, with BFG's, they look great on this Econoline. This will be a NO RESERVE auction, meaning that every bid counts, top bidder get it, who knows what Elvis will sell for, since he is a high roller, he wouldn't have it any other way, $19.62 NO RESERVE. Thanks and Happy Bidding. The body is in very good shape for its age. The Las Vegas desert really treated it right. This Econoline has Original Paint, meaning it is the same paint applied by Ford in 1962. Many rigs would die to have this kind of Patina on it, I love the way it looks for sure. There is NO BONDO obviously, there is not rust threw on the body, just surface rust, all the inner jams, rockers and undercarriage are in really good shape. Yes it has lots of dings, and small dents on it, and plenty of paint scrapped off, but, most of these rigs, usually have lots of rust issues, and are full of bondo, since the bed are not double walled. Look at the pictures of the body, what you see is pretty much what you get, when it comes to the metal on this rig, it is in really good shape. The bed, was obviously used, the bottom is wavy from hauling things, like it was meant to do. The bed inside has lots of surface rust, but no holes or weak spots that I can see, all the structure looks really good on it. The rear tailgate, is obviously not original, so the owner before me, decided to take a set of Econoline Falcon Van doors, and started to make a tailgate out of it, it does have a latch and does function. You can use it as is, then continue to fabricate it, I think it looks actually pretty good, and fits well the style of the rear, or you can find an original tailgate for it. The glass is all good on the van, no cracks, or chips. The gaskets all need replaced at some point, they have old sealant around them to help them from leaking, door glass rolls up and down nicely, but needs new window felts, they rattle a little. The undercarriage is in very good shape, pretty amazing condition, no signs of any rust, the frame rails, inner rockers all look very good. The interior is in good shape. The seats are from a 1968 Ford Mustang, they are in nice shape, no rips or tears, nice to sit in, and look good. Not really to much really to say about the interior in general, because they do not have a lot of amenities in general. The headliners were made of card board, this one is obviously gone. It has a dome light but it is not working. It has after market gauges installed, which is a nice add. The Odometer is working, and the speedometer works, but is off by a lot at 50mph it only reads 30, so not sure what is wrong with it, probably the gearing of the speedo cable. The tach works, but when it is turned off, sits at 1000rpm. Battery is under the drivers seat, and has the original Dog House to cover the engine. The heater does work, but it will need a new fan motor, I think these are pretty universal motors with the Falcon and Mustang, it makes a awful howl noise, think the bearing is shot in the fan motor. The wipers are working as well. The horn is not hooked up, since it has an aftermarket steering wheel on it. Overall the interior is clean for what it is, but little things need fixed here and there. The radio is not working, not even hooked up from what I can tell underneath. The exterior lights are all work, blinkers, brake lights, the lic plate light is not working though. One thing that would be a nice add in the future, is to add some sound deading around the back of the cab, ceiling an inside the dog house. It has some rattles going on inside, so I think this will help, the air cleaner rubs a little inside the doghouse as well, so you can sometimes here it a little. Mechanically it is in pretty good shape, it has been upgraded with a 1968 Mustang 200 - Six Cylinder, over the smaller 144 ci that it came with original. It is in very good shape, it does start right up, and sounds nice. It does not burn any oil or blow smoke, clean running little engine. I decided to take the valve cover off and replace the gasket, so I shot a picture of the rockers they are very clean, no sludge build up or anything, engine must have been rebuilt in the past, other then that don't know a bunch about the engine. It does run smooth though, the carb seems to be in good shape, no leaking or any carb has good response. The transmission is a 4spd Manual, on the column, and interesting transmission, didn't believe it til I drove it. Once you get used to it, no problem, but it can be a little tricky getting into 1st gear, since 1st and reverse are very close, shifting is a little sloppy in the shifter, but overall, it does shift nice, the clutch feels good in it. The transmission has a slight whine to it in the gears, but I really feel it home with the noise, because it sounds like an old truck to me, so doesn't bother me to much. The brakes work really good, no issues with them currently. The heater is not working, since the Fan motor works, but is really noisy. These trucks keep you pretty warm anyways in the winter, replace the little fan motor and you will be golden. It could use new shocks, and general bushing underneath, it likes to wonder a bit, after about 15 minutes of driving it, then you get used to it, but because you sit over the wheels, it does take a little longer to get used to. I think mechanically it is in pretty good shape, will need little tinkering here an there, it is an old rig, and has never been restored or rebuilt, so it does have some needs. With that said though, I trust driving it around, it has never left me stranded, I have had it on 20-30 mile trips no problem. The wheels are American Racing Torque Thrust D's, they look really nice on it, and are in very nice shape. The Tires are BFGoodrich Radial T/A's. with very good tread, about 90%, they are P205/70/14 all they away around. Overall, a nice little rig to jump in and just drive and enjoy. The one on the left, I have had for 2 years, road it last year at the Portland Swap meet to get around. It is early 50's Hawthorne. It was found over in Tillamook Oregon, in a tree, it still has moss on it, never cleaned it off. The bike on the right, is very original. I was at a gentleman's house, buying a car from him, that his mother owned since new. Found out that the house we were at is were he grew up, and he never married, and lived with his mom his whole life. He is around 65 now. Anyways, I asked, well I bet you have your old bike they bought you from when you were a kid. He said a matter fact I do, want to see it. I said sure, so there it was his parents bought it new in 1959 for him it is a JC Higgins, cool old bike. I love both of them the same. YOU ONLY GET TO PICK ONE OF THESE BIKES, The other one is staying here with me. 1950's Hawthorne or 1950's JC Higgins. This plate is not included, put it on for a vintage look this is what it would have had in 1962 in Oregon. It does not have any plates that come with it, because I gave them to the previous caretaker to use on his new car.
