This is a rare and desirable Giulia Spider Normale. These cars have been exploding in value as the contemporary Ferraris and other Italian makes have escalated to where they are impossible to afford for most of us and Alfas provide the style and driving experience Italian cars are beloved for at a more reasonable price. It was formerly the property of the owner of San Diego Alfa Romeo, and has been in his family for decades. We recently found it in dry storage and are offering it "AS-IS".
The body is largely sound - there is some rust in the usual areas, mostly the floors. The car was originally Alfa 501 Red. It is mostly complete with all the hard to find trim parts including the chrome trim for the hood scoop, which is not pictured but is included with the hood. There is no evidence of major accident damage although there is some filler in various places. The pictured hard top is an aftermarket piece. The engine - a later 2 liter with dual Webers (original Italian, not the Spanish reproductions), runs, but the fuel system should be cleaned out before attempting to drive it. The transmission is also apparently good, and shifts easily. It is an original front disc brake car, and the brakes appear to work, but as the car sat for the better part of 10 years they should be inspected and probably rebuilt. The car could be operated with a few days of work, but it is more properly to be considered a great restoration candidate as finished cars have been routinely cracking the $100,000 level at auction.
This is a wonderful find and an opportunity to own a piece of Italian post-war industrial art. There are precious few restorable Giulias left, and this one is a diamond in the rough.
