Vehicle Detail

1988 Subaru Justy GL 2WD hatchback. 5-speed manual transmission. Included with the sale is every receipt since 1990. I'm also including the original window sticker. There are several boxes of spare parts including some very rare Subaru service and parts booklets in as-new condition. There is also a custom car cover, but the corners of the cover became a scratching post for my cat so it does have some holes near the bumpers. The car runs great and has plenty of power. Since I bought the car in 2011 the following work was done. Most of this was only preventative. I wanted this car to be reliable.: - New balance shaft chain- New balance shaft guides- New axles both sides (including CV joints/boots)- New clutch and resurfaced flywheel (less than 500 miles on it)- New tie-rod ends inner/outer passenger side.- 2 new tires, 2 good tires (Kuhmo and Nankang)- New Reman distributor- New cap/rotor/wires/coil- New timing belt- New alternator belt- New exhaust w/ stainless steel muffler- New o2 sensor- New thermostat- K&N air filter- New fuel filter- 3M tinted windows- New drivers side seatbelt tensioner- PCM valve- Intake manifold gasket- Every seal and gasket on the motor was replaced. The engine had to be completely removed to do this. This may just be the only Justy left that does not leak a single drop of oil. The original carburetor starting acting up so I swapped it out for a good carb from another '88. I ditched the electric choke and added a manual choke. I don't use the choke however as it really isn't necessary, I just let it warm up for about 30 seconds. Once the car is warm it idles and runs smoothly. The OEM catalytic converter seems impossible to buy in California so I bought a used aftermarket unit and had it welded in just before the resonator. The factory catalyst cracked so I had it hollowed, and a tube was welded inside to keep the exhaust flow smooth. This does cause the engine to be a little noisier than stock. I would have put the factory cat in place if I could find one. The car just passed smog last month. Registration is current until September 2014. The motor mounts are getting tired and the 3-cylinder motor likes to move around a bit. When the car is cold the aftermarket catalytic converter does sometimes rattle against the subframe. This goes away once the motor is warm or if you put a little pressure on the stick shift knob. There are only 138k original miles on the car.No rust to speak of on the car except for a quarter sized spot on the rear hatch below back window. There are some surface specks on the front grill as well. The paint is all original. There are a couple small dents here and there and a few dings. It's not perfect, but not bad for being 26 years old. I considered polishing the paint before taking the pictures, but I think it's best to show it as it really is. There is still a bit of shine left on the old girl. The car came from the factory with no clear coat, which is actually nice because that means it will shine up very well with a buffer and there's no clear to flake off.Everything except the front window washer squirters work on the car. The heater, radio, windows, wipers, locks, radio, interior/exterior lights, horn, rear window pop-outs, etc they all work. I did replace the front window washer pump, but it did not resolve the problem. The rear squirter works fine. There is a factory Subaru cassette deck that will also be included. I never installed it.Interior is in great condition. No rips in seats. Drivers side door panel has a bad patch job on the vinyl in one section. However I do have a spare door panel that was never installed. The car also has the rear cargo cover in perfect working order. Included are a few cargo cover spares too. The spare and original jack and Subaru tool kit sit in the rear under the carpet. The front struts are getting worn. The car still rides nice however. I added some spring spacers to the rear coils to help stiffen up the suspension and they work great. The car does like to wander a bit with the grooves on the freeway. I think this is due to the skinny 12" tires combined with a loose suspension. Also, I replaced the passenger tie-rod ends and never had the car professionally re-aligned. I simply aligned it using a measuring tape. The car does not have A/C, but it looks like all the wiring for it is in place. I had sourced a complete A/C from a donor car for $250, but never purchased it. I can provide the contact information to the winning bidder. The car is not 4WD, however this would be a nice car to swap the 4WD parts into. Scrap 4WD Justy's can be had very cheap. That's about all I can think of. If you have any questions feel free to ask me. I'll try to respond quickly. I'm really hoping this car goes to a good home. It deserves to live for at least another 26 years. Good luck bidding!
