Vehicle Detail
Im selling my 59 Willys pickup. Just dont have time for it anymore. I bought a 4Runner and im spoiled with power windows and AC.... I just spent over a year rebuilding the drivetrain. I went through and put all new front and rear brakes, new master cylinder, axle bearings (front and rear), rebuilt the rear differential, new tires, clutch, pressure plate, throwout bearing. It took a long time tracking down the original parts for this thing. After I finished the rebuild, more parts popped up. I have four original wheels, and a limited slip differential for the rear (very hard to find). These parts will go to new owner. I have had the truck for 9 years, and I bought it from the second owner. The truck has just over 43000 original miles. Cosmetics: The jeep seems to be all original as far as the body. It started life as a dock workers truck at the Port of Long Beach, CA. No major dents or repairs that I can see, and only surface rust. Theres a few chips in the side vent window. The interior is basically stock. Ive never had carpet or a headliner in it, and Ive never taken off the seat cover. I just installed the auto meter water and oil guages in the dash only because a previous owner cut the panel for a radio. The bed is in great shape, no rust holes. Floor pans are solid. This is by no means a cadillac.. its a creaky, rattly, dependable 4WD. I have used it for fishing and exploring mines here in the Owens Valley for the last 9 years. It has nice wood sides on the bedrails, fishing pole holders, spare tire, jack and accessories. Engine and Drivetrain: It has the original Hurricane 226 engine and three speed manual trans. This thing will start when its 100 out or 10 degrees out. The motor purrs great with no smoke. It has had a slight lifter rattle since I have owned it, and the previous owner said he has heard it for 10 years before I bought it. The transmission is an all original three speed manual with reverse. The transfer case is the original two stick configuration. I have had it up to 55 pushing it, but it prefers to cruise at 45mph or so. If you put it into 4WD LOW, theres no stopping it. Its a torque monster. When driving, the tranny makes its original whining noise, and itll grind a gear once in awhile until youre used to shifting it. I suppose if you put carpet and insulation in it, itd be a lot more quiet, but thats not what I have used it for. As stated above, I have just done a lot of work to the drivetrain. I didnt touch the motor or the actual trans only because its never given me issues. New Rancho front leaf springs as well. The original ones were sagging. Since completing all the work, I have maybe put 2 miles on it. The new tires still have the nubbys on the treads! Overall... This thing is a tank. Its unstoppable, its noisy, the heater works, Ive never figured out how to work the windshield wipers (some kind of vacuum system). Front driving lights are very bright, all lights and signals work great. Theres a switch under dash that turns on rear driving lights which are good for backing up in the pitch black nights. The tires I put on them were as close to the original military style as I could get. They are very aggressive and very soft.. If you let the truck sit for a week or so, they get flat spots and it takes about a block to round out. I rebuilt the heater system as well... Itll bake you while youre driving in the snow!! Spare parts: 4 original 16" wheels, and a original Dana/Spicer Powr-Lok Limited Slip unit for the rear axle. Please feel free to email or call me for more info. The truck is for sale locally and I can remove listing at any time. My name is Craig and my number is 760-258-6540 The truck is located in Independence, Ca which is on Highway 395. Im 3 hours north of Los Angeles, CA, 4 hours south of Reno, NV and maybe 6 hours west of Las Vegas, Ca. My local well known areas are Death Valley, Mt. Whitney, and Mammoth Lakes (so you can figure out where im located) On Dec-12-13 at 22:06:15 PST, seller added the following information: I apologize for the lack of pictures. Ebay only lets me upload 24, and I didnt choose wisely. Please email or text me your information and I can send more pictures if youre interested. Some of the answers im giving to bidders: I have a clear title, registered to me, ready for sale Tires are Cooper N78-15LT .. Brand new, still have the nubbers on the tread. I might have one mile on them Engine runs beautiful.. I feel very comfortable driving it any distance, but remember it tops out around 45-55 I can store it for free if you need time to find a shipper. Bed is in beautiful shape (other than well used) Tailgate is original 43000 Miles are in my opinion the original miles.. This was a work truck for 30 years at the docks, then myself and the previous owner only use it for fishing and 4WD right here in Independence. Door rubber is long gone, but window felt and window rubber is in beautiful shape Dash is original and un cut. I installed aftermarket guages in a $25 replaceable panel that was cut by a previous owner for a radio. Its all original and as far as I know the only missing pieces are the horn cap, and original air cleaner. It has the original 'Beep' horn... pretty cool. Battery is new, I just finished a oil change and tune up (havent even driven it yet.. did it yesterday) On Dec-12-13 at 22:18:44 PST, seller added the following information: I have tons of pictures if you need them. I can send them through text, or email.. lecktrix@yahoo.com
