Vehicle Detail
Relisting because winning bidder never responded - at all. Here is a running, driving classic (well, I think so) Mopar entry to the US compact market in 1978. Designed to compete with the VW Rabbit. (LOTS of similarities) This early production model (pre 6/1978) features a 1.7 VW engine - ironic - and the venerable Mopar 3 speed Torque-Flite automatic transmission. I just replaced the passenger side axle and wheel bearing - more on that later. Email with questions or if you need additional pics. I will try to have a video posted in a couple days as well. Thanks for your interest! . On Oct-21-13 at 19:43:38 PDT, seller added the following information: 50,000 mileage on the odometer, actually around 48,000. When I bought the car I was told it was actual - there are a lot of maintenance records, I took someone at their word but but I seriously doubt if that is actual. If so, it was rode hard and put away wet.As stated new axle and bearing on passenger side - which is when I discovered that this care was rolled out in fall of 1978 and then had some pretty significant changes in 6/78 - front end stuff mostly. So I thing the pair of axles I got (driver's side too) are probably the last new ones on the planet. I did keep the old one - stuff can always be rebuilt. Not sure when they went to the 2.2 engine. The front calipers were recently replace and the brakes are fine all around. I bought the car to be a commuter/gas saver but I no longer have that long commute for work and it's taken me a while to get the front end issues taken care of. I have moved on. That said, the car is pretty neat. I've had two turbo Omnis and one GLHS Omni so I like the body style. I also really like the green in and out, AND the fact that the body is so solid. I had it on a lift when I was working on the axles and there are a couple small holes in the floor. The only thing I didn't get to was a leaky valve cover gasket. I have it, just didn't replace it. What else can I tell you? Manual steering and brakes, no AC. Headliner is old style so no droop. Passenger seat has tears. Tires are next to new. The 1.7 is no powerhouse but the Torqueflite is geared to make the best use of it. On Oct-22-13 at 06:19:25 PDT, seller added the following information: More pics. Let me know if you want anything specific that I can take with an iPhone. One other thing. If you know these cars you know they're notorious for their door handles. Two on pass side are not working, 2 on driver's side are - I am very gentle with them. All inside door openers work. I have one new door handle left over from one of my other Omnis. Engine running and walk around.
