Vehicle Detail
I purchased the car earlier this summer but it was delivered a couple of weeks ago. It was described as a low mileage survivor with a rust spot on the drivers floor and another in the tool tray. Other than that it only had surface rust. The previous owner thought it could be made to run and that the mileage was original. It was missing the rear window glass and had been stored in a barn. He indicated he planned to get the engine running and to drive it with the original "patina". I was led to believe it could be easily made into a driving car and that the paint and upholstery were "good enough for now". I had the car inspected and was told the description was accurate. I was shocked to find how inaccurate the description when I first saw the car and will try my best to correct that now. I am an old man and have a number of other projects going. My plan was to have this car running with a flathead I have ready to go in a matter of a month. Since that is impossible I have decided to sell the car. So, here is the real deal to the best of my knowledge. The "surface rust" on the passenger floorboard is all the way through. Its almost as bad as the drivers floor. Midwest Early Ford has the front floor pans and rockers to replace the damaged parts. The "little rust" in the tool tray is actually the entire tool tray and the bottom of the panel beneath the trunk. The channel around the trunk has rust through in many places and needs to be addressed. Bottom line is that the car needs to have the body removed and to be media blasted. I think the chassis is probably OK with blasting but I haven't been under the car. The "perfect" grill has some damage on one side but can probably be fixed. The door post area actually looks to be OK. The fender apron by the battery box has a rust hole but can be saved. There is some rust through on the lower rear body next to the back of the fenders. The seats are there and look to be OK but will need to be redone. The brakes dont work but I did tow the car to my shop for a couple of miles and used the engine to slow the car and stop it. The transmission and clutch seem to work really well as does the steering. If you are planning on a ground up restoration this will be a better starting point than many of the POS cars being sold around the country but its going to take some time that I don't have. Before bidding you need to call me at 907 209 8881 or 435 648 3825 and I will walk around the car while you are on the phone and I will try to honestly answer any and all questions. There are some good things about this car. It looks to be all there. The wheels and tires hub caps beauty rings, etc. are all there. It hasn't been butchered. The car is presently on a trailer in southern Utah. I am getting ready to leave next week for St. Louis. I can detour somewhat and deliver the car for help with fuel. To do that I need to be sure that it will be sold, so a substantial deposit needs to be made before I leave Utah. If you find I have misrepresented the car in any way I will refund your money except for any expenses I incur in delivery and in returning it to Utah. This is a no reserve auction so if you make the minimum bid you will own the car. I will be losing over 2K if it only brings the minimum. You might keep my phone number if it doesn't sell as I will be parting it out.
